Well with playlists on the Ipod, that numbering thing really isn't an issue, but I'm using XM through mine as well. You can get lost in the channels without a guide above 100 lol.

I know they have different software versions on them, was just wondering if maybe an earlier version worked better. I've got 1.3, very curious what version pops up on Rogman's

im fairly certain we have the same batch devilboi. The device appears to be VERY sensitive to even ambient(hot day) heat.

Rev E circuit, 1.1 firmware. Axess support says the newer firmware versions only fix XM radio issues, no other changes. (there is a newer version)

autotoys told me to check in 2 weeks(a week ago) because they had none in stock.

The response I got on Friday...

"Anyway, I opened one of them up and on the edge, it reads REV E. It is the last unit we have in stock. So we will be ordering more next week, check back with us next friday or so to check on those stock."

How are you communicating with them? I get very slow responses via email

The only way I have found to communicate with them is email. According to their website they don't do anything else under the AutoToys name. A check around the web finds a bunch of reviews on horrible service the same way. It took them almost a week to respond to my email the first time and the "ticket" that I opened was closed before I got my first email. Anyone going forward I would recommend going elseware, these people just seem to busy to care.

Have had similar issues

I installed my unit a few weeks ago and it works great. Well, most of the time. I too have had intermittent problems with the unit, such as "MD IN" disappearing from the display and no iPod music. When the car cools down, it does come back. I bought some thermal cloth (Versa-Shield from Advance Auto Parts) and plan to either lay down this material underneath my Axxess box, or simply move it the hidden "shelf" between the radio and glove box (sounds like the better idea to me).

When it works, it is great! I love seeing the text on the display and being able to control the iPod from the steering wheel. I also purchased the XM tuner and plan to install it when I get back from a trip to the Far East in a couple of weeks.

As for the circuit adapter that goes into the MD plug, I put a piece of black mastic tape between the top edge of the circuit board and over the edge of the HU housing. I then covered it with the metal bracket supplied with the kit. The tape holds the adapter in with absolutely no issues and the extra bit of thickness and tackiness of the tape keeps the connection snug and tight.

they told me mine was shipped three times before i actually got a tracking number...and it took over 2 weeks to get from New Jersey to Ohio...not that far of a trip..

autotoys sucks..

but on another note, this unit seems to be working fine in my Mazdaspeed6 thus far...we shall see once i get out and about on a hot day..

MS6FTW sent this over to me this morning. Pretty sure they were a sponsor here, but they are a sponsor over at the Mazda 6 forums. Good price...and supposedly reliable service.

I had my first HEAT issue Monday. Was 101 on the temp gauge and car was in the sun most of the day.
Opened the glove box and turned on the AC.......within about 8 miles I turned power off the back on and it started working again.

I guess it is not a huge problem but it sure would be nice if there was a fix for it.

We could always go to the Shack and pick up some old small CPU fans and mount them to the box.

I've been running the axxes box for a few days now hanging off the side of my center console(passenger side) and had zero problems. The issue is obviously ambient heat and other than that this device is awesome.

Should we look at small fans or is there a better solution? Ideally I'd like something passive..

I am still planning on getting a replacement unit through autotoys. I'll start bothering them at the end of the week.

Well, I installed it last weekend and all was fine until this morning when I took a trip up to San Francisco. An hour and a bit drive and it was ok. After the car sat for 45 minutes it wouldn't work. The same problems as others have reported. Near the end of the drive back it came back to life - seems to be heat soak. I have mine installed behind the ashtray with a heat protection pad under it - while installing the unit I took the time to install metallized insulating pad under the centre console and I stuck some of the same material under the Axxess box. (see Robin Yang's cup holder insulation - http://69.108.208.137/ryang/modify/r...8_console.html) Still getting the heat soak issue.

I'm going to see about relocating mine to the "shelf" beside the glove box. I had the iPod sitting in the middle bin of the centre console which seemed like a good location. I wonder if there's enough cabling to keep it there if I move the Axxess box. Anybody move the box and still get the problems?

Mine is strapped to the brace to the left side of the glovebox and I had a HEAT issue on Monday.

Have you guys with the Axxess box thought of drilling holes in the case for ventilation?

Or splitting it in half and leaving it open?

On the way back to work the ambient temp INSIDE THE CAR overheated the box. Most pathetic resistance to heat I've ever seen from electronics.

Ambient heat was 90 degrees.

Laythor: The case is a soft plastic, we could run it open but that would just mean leaving the (already apparent) fragile IC open to external elements.

With a couple feet of cable to spare.

The only problem with ambient heat is that it is taken from outside the car from what I understand. I am thinking of getting a little digital thermostat to see what the actual inside temp is vs where the Axxess box is. I wonder, can any of you that have working boxes take a picture of the inside of the unit? It would be interesting to see how they differ.

ambient temp inside the car, not off the thermo readout on the dash. The thermo for that is up at the front of the car passenger side afaik.

I have been instructed by AutoToys to take up my issue with Metra as AutoToys is only a reseller and can't help me with my problem.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM AUTOTOYS!!!!
