stock mp3 player error tolerance

stock mp3 player error tolerance
My stock mp3 player works OK, most of the time, but, I've noticed it has a very low tolerance for errors. I have one CD-R that's been "mistreated" (a bit scuffed) and it won't even play in the car. My pc at home plays it with absolutely no problems.
I have several other cd's with no visible scratches that at first played fine, but now either stall or give intermittent whoops and screeches (my wife thinks the steero has Turett's syndrome <g>)
I'm wondering if I got a lemon and should have this replaced? Might be kinda hard to make a case with something subjective and intermittent like this....
Anyone else experience this?

Deals on wheels
No I have the same problem. But I don't ever use regular CD's in it. Whenever I buy a CD I come straight home and rip it and put it straight in my cd case on my bookshelf. Then I make a new MP3 CD with that cd on it. And when I get tired of that one I just make a new one with different songs. It works well because I usually listen to my Sirius radio... so it's harder to get tired of my cds

i use only cd-r disks in mine. no issues.
over the years my center console has gotten about 12 cd-rs, and they bang around getting scratches. They all still play just fine.
I did find that the mp3 player can't play some mp3s. Either file name is too long, or special characters... I donno. Rarely encounter it.

Mostly.... :-/
I've also only used CDR's in mine. A CDRW would be the acid test b/c they are inherently harder to read. I might try to use that to make my case w/ the dealer... Gotta checke the manual to see if it's supposed to read CDRW's....

Stuck in a love triangle
I have been burning most of my CDs lately onto CDRWs and it plays them just fine. Even CDRWs that have been reburned over 10 times. Only problem I have noticed is that some songs start to pop and skip but it only happens once in a blue moon.
It has never "spit" a disc back at me but then again I don't treat my CDs like ****...I store them in cases.
Also, as for tolerance as far as skipping due to bumps in the road, I can probably drive through train tracks at over 35mph and I bet it still wouldn't skip...unlike the stock CD player, which was a nightmare on bumpy roads.

Sorry for the dumb question, but Mazda sells a CD player that plays MP3 disks? I have the Bose single CD system. Also, I'm considering the PhatNoise mp3 thingy. Opinions? Thanks - Jud

Yeah, I'm curious about this too - when I tried putting an MP3 CD in my stock 6-disc changer, it didn't have any idea what to do with it. Is there an upgrade available, or is it a different option, or what?

the car (stock) comes with a standard cd audio player.
There are 2 main upgrade options.
1) 6 disk cd changer, this only plays standard audio cds.
2) MP3 player, it holds a single disk, but the files are written as data with mp3 files on it. you can hold more songs on one mp3 disk than the 6 disk changer.
You can also get a Sony MiniDisc player or a tape player, in addition to one of the above items.

Aha, so the MP3 player wasn't an option, it's just available now... Damn damn damn, wish I'd known about that when I bought the car a few weeks ago, coulda had them swap that for the 6-disc changer that's in there now. Oh well, another few hundred bucks down the drain to order the mp3 player.

It's been an option all along, but it's not a factory installed option as far as I know. It's always been a dealer installed option. I bought mine from another member on the forum and installed it myself over 2 years ago.

Well, I suspect I'll be ordering it tomorrow morning from work. Just gotta see if it's cheap enough from the local dealer that it's worth getting from there instead of from rosenthal.

For the price I don't recommend the Mazda MP3 player, it's featureless, it does skip at times and you don't even have to go over bumps. And my biggest peeve of the Mazda MP3 player is in Random mode you can't skip to the next random song without it turning off random mode. Like I said featureless.
For the cost of the Mazda MP3 player you could probably get the upcoming ipod adapter and buy the iPod for about the same price. Ok, maybe a little more but you get a better MP3 player.

Well, if I can sell off the 6-disc changer to my mom, then it's close to free. I wouldn't want the ipod adapter anyway. 1. I don't have an ipod and don't really want one, 2. it'd be impossible to navigate through that many songs with the dash interface in any kind of useful fashion. I've had an mp3 cd player in my celica for years and loved it.

The Cd Player on the 8 is garbage, straight garbage.
Mazda said it's built to spec: No way, I am in the Aerospace industry and makes music. If my material is not to spec: no business.
I have actually filed this with Ohio better business bureau just recently.
There is a problem when 99% of all CD players made can read through those scrathces.
I can burn a new song or beat I just made; get's a little scrathed and is terrible at reading. Fortunatley for me: I am always making new material and just through the discs away.
I want Mazda's *** on this:
