If you get on ebay there is some people that sell pvc inserts to change the speaker size in the doors. At least they did a couple years ago when I bought mine and changed my doors to some nice kenwood excelerons 6.5"s. I wouldn't use another speaker with the bose mini amps though, it will sound like crap, same for the rears, that's if you have the bose system though. If you have the base then just buy the inserts and plug in your speaker.
If you wan't to change the door speakers, or the rear 6x9's in a bose system you are better off getting an second amplifier and run wires to the rear and through the doors. I have a custom set up that utilizes the bose amp for the tweeters, a rockford amp for the the speakers and my four subwoofers.

No doubt a custom bracket is necessary...would fabricate that. Looking to swap out the head unit too so no issue with the Bose amps since I wouldn't be using them.
Just wondering if anybody has stuffed 6x9s in the door. Seems like they'll fit and it's easier to find 6x9 component speakers than 8" component systems.

Could you link to which ones you installed?

I was mistaken about the speakers, they are not the excelons, they are the performance series, it had been a while since I installed them.

I have the 6.5's in the doors, and the 6x9's in the rear. They sound awesome BTW.

I just put in some 6x9 kappas in my rear deck and I'm looking to replace the bose amp in the truck with an aftermarket amp so I can eventually replace the front woofers. If you're happy with your amp, what brand is it?

I'll have to look harder before I fabricate a mount, but I haven't found any mounts on ebay (unless I'm searching with the wrong key words) that will mount in our 9" hole.

I found this place but they don't specifically state they're for the Bose system:

I contacted them about a custom cutout (which they offer) but they can only cut circles so no dice. I will probably order the 5-1/2" model and cut them myself if they'll fit the speaker.

what should I do?
Those WITH THE BOSE SYSTEM who are installing the Metra kit to replace the factory headunit with an aftermarket unit, you must install the kit using your new headunit's RCA outputs. The RX8 factory headunit sends a low-level signal to the Bose amp, which then amplifies it and sends it to the speakers. Your new headunit has a small amplifier built in. If you connect your new headunit by following Metra's instructions and using the regular speaker wires, you will be sending an amplified signal to the Bose amp, which will then amplify it a second time before sending it out to your speakers. This will yield an extremely high volume with the headunit volume set very low, as well as distortion and noise even with the volume set to zero.
To solve this, use a simple RCA to speaker wire adapter piece, like pictured below:
Just plug the RCA end into your new headunit's front/rear RCA outputs and wire the speaker leads to the appropriate wires on the Metra harness. This will allow a low-level signal to be sent to the Bose amp and save you a ton of headaches.
If you plan on using your new headunit's RCA rear output for subwoofers, then a simple RCA Y-cable would work. One pair to the Metra harness using the method above and one pair to your new aftermarket sub amp.
If your headunit only has one pair of RCA outputs... well... return it and buy something worth a damn. lol You can try using two RCA Y-cables and fading all the music to the rear (so all the sound is output through the RCA output), but I'm not sure how that will sound. Less than ideal surely.
This post does not apply to those with the base non-Bose system. Install using the regular speaker level outputs on your headunit.

anyways wondering if I should just remove the RCA jacks and run it how I was running the old sony with a **** ton of interference, and engine noise but plays music I'm using the JL audio RCA to speaker wire adapters:they are these here:

I have removed my headunit completely and now my amp doesn't turn on. It still shows the 12V constant from the battery but it isn't turning on with ACC. Is this because it only turns on when it receives a speaker level signal?

If as you say above, the Bose amp just has a constant 12V and no remote turn-on then what is stopping this from being a battery drain?

Okay read a butt load of info today.
Still haven't figured out what exactly what is needed to run a passive crossover with a 6.5in speaker 1in. tweeter (infinity 6030cs 270watts) after market deck infinity basslink sub/amp combo (200watts) and rear 6x9 (9632cf) can I do this with out running new wire and have it all work or am I going to have to run new wire to all speakers, or just the fronts?
