Unfortunately, no. The whole shabang must be disassembled.

And I'd just go aftermarket. No reason to buy another Bose speaker. Not for this location anyway.

jesus im so lost reading all this and I have never had so much trouble with trying to get the right parts with a car I owned to just replace the headunit...

all i want to do is replace the headunit with my alpine 9885

I looked at the metra kit and had someone post in another thread i made about it and basically said the metra kit comes with everything I need to do this with a BOSE system...However after trying to complie all this I dont think so...

whats exactly needed to replace the headunit in a BOSE system??

How much would it cost to get the hvac controls to work with a new headunit. Many people told me they dont work with their metra kit.

EVERYONE. Once and for all. The Metra kit is SPECIALTY MADE for the RX8 in order to replace the factory headunit and retain the HVAC controls. Bose. Non-Bose. Single-din. Double-din. If you have an 04-08 RX8 and want to replace the factory headunit, the Metra kit is all you need.

If you've met someone who has the Metra kit and is having problems with their HVAC, then they have some other issues. Maybe their kit is faulty. Maybe the installation is faulty. Regardless, the Metra kit contains everything you need.

When buying the kit, make sure you choose single or double din. Also choose which finish you want, high gloss or matte finish.

I'm kind of confused by the info in this thread, but I just have a question that doesn't warrant a new thread. If my amplifier does not have speaker level inputs, what do I need to do? And what about if it does?

*IF YOUR USING THE BOSE STOCK HEAD UNIT*
if your amp HAS speaker level inputs, then splice them into the speaker wires between the bose amp and the rear 6x9s. if it does NOT have the speak level input, you need a LOC, splice the LOC the same way you would if your amp had speaker level inputs.

Bose or standard stereo? I've got RCA level outputs connected to the inputs of the bose amps in my system and it drives them fine. I've got a bit of alternator whine that I haven't been able to get rid of yet, but that may be because of where my wiring is run.

Hey guys, I have a quick question. I've got the Corksport kit installed and all the audio/video is working, but my AC does not work. I have the AC module plugged in, but only hot engine air blows out when I turn the fan ****. My red information bar that shows the Ambient temp and air cycle does not light up. Neither does any of my AC switches (fan ****, temperature ****, AC on/off button, defrost button). None of those light up. What am I doing wrong? Did I crosswire something? Please help. It's getting HOT in TEXAS and I need my AC! Haha. Thanks.

I too have the Corksport kit. I didn't have to do anything special to get the A/C to work. Followed the directions and everything worked great at the end. About the only thing I can tell you would be to rip everything back apart and double check to make sure a connection didn't come loose. Maybe when you were trying to squeeze everything back together, something came apart. I donno. Let us know what you find.

If you could also edit in some info about steering wheel controls. They will be lost with replacement of the stock headunit, Bose or not, with an aftermarket headunit. You need to purchase the PAC SWI-PS if you're installing a Pioneer, Dual, Jenson or Sony headunit. Or purchase the PAC SWI-JACK is you're installing a JVC, Alpine, Clarion or Kenwood headunit. Purchase the PAC SWI-ECL2 is you're installing an Eclipse headunit.

I would also add links for the RX8 specific sub boxes available. 4080enclosures, Zenclosures, and WickedCAS. Even if you don't want to provide direct links, post up links to the pictures and note the name of the company or something. They can google from there. Also note that these are the only options for pre-fab RX8 specific enclosures.... so don't ask. lol

Quick Question: After an accident the rear speakers blew on my Base model. I can get the 6x9's off a Bose system cheap. There is no issue running the Bose units on a non-Bose equipped car right?

The Bose 6x9 speakers are 2 ohm. The base model has 4 ohm 6x9's. It's never advised to run any headunit @ a 2 ohm load. And with accounts of folks frying their factory RX8 headunits for various reasons, it leads me to believe the factory headunit doesn't contain much in the way of protection circuitry. So I certainly wouldn't chance it on your 8.

Any aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. Stop on by your local retailer and pick some out or if you can wait, shop online. eBay, woofersetc.com or sonicelectronix.com Expect to pay atleast $80 online or $125 in store for quality equipment.

Has it ever been pointed out that on cars with Nav, one pair of speaker wires on the J-01 harness is different at the bose amp end of the harness?

I believe it's the front left speaker wires that are a different color. I ran across this when I did my install and it was enough to give me pause for several minutes before plowing on according to the pin outs, not the wire color (With great success i might add).

I'll try and verify this weekend.

Yeah, I went and verified. The pin out is the same, but the wire colors are different at the bose harness on cars with Navi. I believe this is because the nav unit has to tap into the speaker for turn by turn directions.

On cars with nav, purple/white is Positive, red/black is negative for the left front speaker.

Wiring Question: I'm trying to hook up my PAC SWI-Jack Steering Wheel control interface, and the installation instructions say to hook up the white wire to the Steering wheel control wire. I looked at the wiring diagram, and there are two of them. Can someone please tell me which wire to connect to? All the pin out diagrams I've found have the the pins designated by letter, and the instructions have numbers. Please HELP!
