If you cut the hood just right You don't need anything to hold it in place really. But I did use a hot glue gun just to be sure it stayed still. I went with hot glue cause its not permanent and if I ever needed to remove the tablet I could without damaging it.

audio integration
Using the Galaxy tablet, is there any unit that will be able to integrate the audio so that steering wheel controls still work (i.e. track up/down)?
Also looking at a few ideas...wondering if anyone has done this or could offer some advice. Was looking at adding bluetooth and a backup camera to connect to the tablet as well. Has anyone come across this setup?
xcarlink would be able to solve the bluetooth and audio integration, but will I have the same control using an android instead of an apple product?

Grom has android integration, but it's unclear whether it requires the use of their app. It shouldn't, but it might.
I will test it Saturday when I install it, one of my hardest things I am going to have to do, is trying to mix and match the Metra cables with the GROM. Last solution if the USB thing does not work, well there are a few. One is to write custom software to handle it (send the proper stuff over to the GROM) and the second is just use an AUX cable to do it, which it should switch between the two? I am not one hundred percent sure about all of this.
This will be a project, that is for sure.

I got some pretty good pictures from some people who have cut their control ***** and will attempt this when I get home today or tomorrow to verify this all works. I just wish it was an easier install then I had thought, without so much modification.

Secondly I'm wondering where I can get a replacement nav compartment for an 04. I've got a fiberglass project that id like to do on a spare instead of mine. Any insight is appreciated.

When fitting in my nexus to the Metra kit, I tried to not shave my dumb a/c controls down to nothing and keep the hazard button. Though, the tablet is too wide (tall when horizontal) that it pushes the hazard button higher.
I got some pretty good pictures from some people who have cut their control ***** and will attempt this when I get home today or tomorrow to verify this all works. I just wish it was an easier install then I had thought, without so much modification.

Oh I gotcha, you want to replace the radio with it. Sorry, can't help ya with that.
You can try buying it form someone on here, or a junkyard.

Update, I have another thread going on how to maybe customize the GROM with the Metra kit to be used WITHOUT the headunit. I am going to do some testing on the CD output to see how that all works on which pin does what type of thing.
This will allow me to possibly just straight up hardwire the GROM to the loose wires that typically would go to the Radio.
Hopefully, everything will turn out fine. Backup plan is forget the GROM (waste of money if I do this) and then I have a DAC/AMP coming from China for cheap that will allow me to do Tablet > USB > DAC/AMP > 3.5mm > RCA > AMP.
I do have a LOC (Line Out Converter) for the RCA to Line Out, but I have been reading that that is not needed. Plus the product kind of sucks for the $60 best buy charged me, even though they have $17 ones on their website; some bullshit.

Hey, I don't really keep up with the galaxy's, But I saw this and it probably is a good deal so I figuured I would share it.

Turns out the rx8 I just got didn't have a nav compartment at all. Since the display screen isn't working after stereo install I'm trying to find a way to have a tablet flip up from there. ( like a single din flip up stereo) Iif I can figure out a way to get that together I'll post a full how to. Promise

So I finally got my Nexus 7 (2013) installed. However, the screen motor is off-track somehow and doesn't open/close correctly.

Separate the 2 gears, spin it around (360*) reassemble. I had some issues too when I first installed mine. Test, repeat till it opens/closes/tilts with the buttons. Not sure why this happens, mine worked fine on the table prior to installing it. Once I got it to work hooked up to the car I never had a issue since.
Edit* BTW I'm talking about the black gear with the white mark on it. not the white gears in the hood itself.

Like WaitingForFI said, you need to take the motor/tablet housing out of the larger housing so that the gears are free. Then, press the open/close button multiple times so that it opens and closes FULLY.
When placing the gears back into the housing, make sure that they DO NOT turn. They need to stay in the same position or else the housing will not fully open/close (like yours is doing.) Also, both gears get inserted into a piece of ridges that's kind of "half-moon" shaped. Make sure that you place the gears either at the very top of this half-moon or the very bottom (depending on if you hit open/close last.)
There's a thread somewhere around here that explains it better, but I hope that helps.
