I ported the passthrough lid with the rear rotary accent. Total time on the job was 4 hours.

Amp crossover set to 65Hz. Dynamat in the passthrough and on the underside of the lid. Sub enclosure filled with fiber fill.

End result is rich deep bass that does not overpower the rest of the music. I had tried a 10W0 but that was way too much bass compared to the rest of the music. I am much happier with the 8". I listen to a lot of hardcore reggae music and drum and bass techno. Bass was very important to me but so was the overall quality of the music.

I briefly considered the 8w7 but felt that it would take away too much trunk space for the additional bass I would be getting. In addition it is $400 compared to $160 for the 8w3v2. You can see from the pics that very little trunk space has been lost.

Bottom line: If you have time and you dont need monster bass. Consider mounting an 8" in the pass through. Since I had not heard of anyone doing this before it occured to me i think it should be nicknamed the "Cuzzin Enclosure" :-)

Cuzzin

Hard pounding bass rattles the front doors. I will add some dynamat to the doors soon. I have the 300W factory bose and I think the rattling would have existed even without the new sub. The rattling sounds like metal on metal so I think some cables need to be secured in addition to the application of dynamat.
I love it :D Did you use a pre-built enclosure or was it a custom job? If custom, can you send me the specs. I would like to get started on mine.

Thanks,
Ron

Hey "CUZZIN" Great idea, using the rear medallion as a port. I love simple easy solutions that no one thought of because they were so easy and simple.

I like your set up with one JL 10.... I have two PPI 10s and as i get older... I'm starting to feel like they are a little too loud for regular day to day use... however, I need some base in my music and think that one 10 should do the trick just fine.... wht did that cost you?

It didn't cost too much - I had all the components from other cars in the garage and just used them all together - I made the box out of mdf - but if you know someone who can fiberglass, you would be able to make the same set-up with a bigger and lighter box - so it would be a little louder!!

I'm sorry, but I don't own any golf clubs; however if you give me a measurement I could check it out for you. I would imagine that they should still fit diagonally across the trunk space.

Forum rules state that I can't say the price because he isn't set up as a vendor. However, I would agree that the price was "high." You get what you pay for; its very clean, fits in with the car well, and takes up minimal space.

Single JL8W3V2 with PG 100.4 and U2Ipod for tunes.
Sealed box 0.43 cubic feet internal volume - takes up little trunk space.

Problems?
Velocity red paint is damn expensive.
Now need to fix all the rattles in the car. Rear Deck, Passenger Door.
Extension is pretty flat to below 27Hz just by ear.
Most likely will measure down to 23Hz or so.
(Our hearing attenuates lower frequency bass - SPL will be high but we will perceive the sound to be lower)
Grill is from older 8W3V2 and has clearance issues with new speaker. So I can't use it - even when I did and had grill cloth over it for a "factory" look the cloth would rap against the grill.

Wiring?
Audio into the AMP is hooked up with a peripheral SVEN.2 BEFORE the rear amplifier. This converts to single ended RCA's.
AMP trigger is wired to the 12V trigger of the rear amp. No popping.

Sound?
When in phase - not too bad.
Fills in the sound of the BOSE system - next step is to rid myself of the door speakers.
Just for fun I put in one of my unused 8" Bazooka tubes to compare the sound.
Running the Bazooka from the 200 Watt bridged channel actually sounded decent. The JL played a bit tighter and with more punch at lower volumes.

Yet another pass-through sub inspired by all those who came before me. Thank you for your posts. I will get one up when I get better pics.
