OEM Nav System
I have a 2004 RX8 with Nav System that came with my car when I purchased it used. I have no use for it and I kind of miss the pocket that I had in my Mazda 6.
If I were to sell this what would it be worth and how much would I have to remove? I'm wondering about value because I'm not sure if it would be worth removing.

The pop up dash piece (minus the actual screen) is worth a little bit. Some folks like to install aftermarket screens in them and use a PC for movies/music. I can only ballpark $50.
Other than that, it's pretty much worthless. It might be worth something to someone who already has the stock navigation and knows one specific part is faulty. But it's COMPLETELY worthless to attempt installing the factory navigation system in an 8 without one because:
1) It's a royal PITA
2) It's out-dated as heck
3) It was lackluster to begin with
Everyone has Google Maps on their phone or a $150 Garmin, either of which decimate the factory navigation.

my only point was that 50 bucks is somewhere in the ballpark's outer parking lot, and i doubt your overall repeated dislike for the factory nav wasn't a factor in where that figure came from

Actually my ballpark came from the fact you can buy the pop up piece online new. Thought is was like $140 without the screen. Didn't think I had to make citations while giving my opinion, because as you said, he should be doing his own due diligence.
But that doesn't mean everything else I said wasn't complete fact. OEM nav was easily beat out by a Garmin of its time. Now the nav hasn't been updated in many years. Meanwhile portable GPS units have plummeted in price and have only gotten better. Real time traffic on OEM nav? I don't think so.

i might be wrong but i believe that's the cubbie pocket style panel, not built to hold a screen, plus you're forgetting the motor (which is a huge PITA otherwise IMO), and button controls + logic board. though maybe making those work without the whole system sucks too, idk 
just to provide an alternative viewpoint, i DO like OEM nav for the following:
- hood opens and closes automatically
- screen dims and nav night view comes on automatically when headlights are turned on
- speaker volume lowers when nav is speaking
- either the lock times are awesome or else the unit remembers last vehicle position and estimates until it does lock (probably the latter).
this last is the reason why i ditched the nav piece of my carPC.
i guess that's all i can think of off the top of my head and that all may be trivial to some, but those are the little things that integrate it INTO the car, which i value, along with the cleanness of it all.
when i use it, it's just point A to point B for me, so it suits my needs. i like how it remembers the list of cities you've input too when entering in an address, which i hardly ever see, even on handhelds. irritates me not to see it on our spendier germanmobile

I am very happy with the trade. 1.3LOF probably came out a little ahead, but this forum is one of the best and I have definitely gotten my money's worth when it comes to knowledge gained.
No complaints here. I think I even saved a few ounces of weight so it might make me faster.

you should remove the nav and install a tablet like i did if you have the stock radio order grom-usb and youll be set

Samsung gaxaly tab. you have to do some modifications to make it fit and enlarge the opening to get to your home menu back and search buttons. I have the torque app with wireless Bluetooth obdII dongle for Android

dont mean to revive an old thread but figure its better than starting a new one.
how did you do this tablet thing. i was planning on getting the auxmod unit (Sylfex) but didnt want my mp3 player out with the wires to change music this would clean that up. i dont use the stock nav. any info on mounting and securing would be great.
also if you have any info on firmware update to use the grom unit please fill me in, mine is 9.53
