Metra kit wiring

Ok I feel like an idiot for having to ask this, but I'm a bit confused on the wiring for the metra kit. There are two green and green/black wires on the metra harness. I saw how some other wires went from the harness clip to the access box and out from there, but these wires have ends coming from both the access box and the harness. Do I just splice these together then to my radio harness?

Look on Page 8 of the instructions. It explains that those are for sat/nav/accessories.

All of the speaker wires are run real close to one another, they should all be very obvious.

thank you, I got it set up and was working great. However, I held down the mode button to customize my dash display and the display cut out along with the lights on the climate control and have not come back on after pulling it out and checking for pinched wires. The hazards went crazy
as well. They hazard light indicator came on after turning the car off and there was a loud buzzing coming from behind the dash above the fuse box. Checked inside and outside fuses, everything looks ok.

Firmware? Even though it was working at first?

Try pulling the battery for like 3 mins try to reset it? Hopefully nothing was fried. Can any1 confirm if the Metra kit enables the LCD screen to continue working? i would love to put in a double din Touchscreen Alpine or Pioneer but i would rather retain the LCD and factory look if thats not possible.

does it display anything tho.. What will it say with an aftermarket headunit attached. Can someone post a pick of the metra kit in use with an after market headunit to show the factory display?

I'll let you know after this weekend...I'm doing the swap this weekend. I've already done all the soldering, now it should be plug and play <crosses fingers>.

It performs like factory. Expect you can program the greeting message to anything you want.

Yeah it says "metra's rx8" until you customize it and has the normal temp, clock, and ac functions displayed.

I was hoping I just got water in the fusebox as I read several threads with this issue pertaining to the hazards. This morning the hazards are fine but still no display or climate control

Perhaps I will try doing the battery thing.

Keep us posted man. All the luck to ya cause i had a moment in my last RX8 where the display wasnt working as well. I had to replace the whole headunit and faceplate cause it was fried all the way through due to a short wire contact. These cars electrical are VERY sensitive

Thanks Trippwire. Well, I removed ground from the battery for a few minutes and made sure it was clean and tight and it didn't change anything. I am really clueless here. Any other ideas for me to try? lol

After spending a couple hours searcing through the "metra kit is here" thread, I think I have found the culprit. Many have had trouble with a cracked solder in the hvac unit and this might explain why it went out while I was pushing on the moded button. I imagine, but don't remember for sure if that would leave the display powerless as well. Hopefully I can get around to doing this tonight and see if it fixes it.

I've been working on it for months. Granted it has been too cold to work on it for quite a few weekends.

Jesus. I'd think that kind of time is worth more than what a shop would charge...

and 7 hours for a beginner isn't awful I guess. If I remember right, it took me about 5-5 1/2 hours including soldering all connections, steering wheel control adapter, external bluetooth and sirius modules. First time on the RX8, so I could probably do it in 4 hours second time around. But that's when I used to do it for a living and had a shop to work in.

If I knew then what I know now I'd have paid a shop to do it.

I had the HVAC soldering issue.

I had a undiscoverable short that was draining the battery after a day. Imagine trying a fix on a saturday and finding out on sunday if it worked. Now wait till next warm weekend to try something else out.

I ended up with the a bad battery. Replaced that. Found the positive cable was very corroded. Fixed that.

If it warms up today I'll be hooking the steering wheel controller back up. Then we'll see if that was the culprit for draining the battery.

I'm also concerned about finding a good ground behind the dash (shameless double post).

soldering the points in the heater fix diy did not change anything. I looked at the back of the axcess box and it says 08 and the last two digits in serial number are 10 so I'm assuming that is version 1.0. Wonderful.
