Looking to buy Subs and Amp

Hi, I just purchased a 04 RX8 and looking to put subs and an amp into it. Can anyone recommend anything in particular? I have no idea where to start.

If possible, I'd like to keep stock speakers and head unit, but I am open to getting a whole new system if that's what it takes.

Please and thanks for your time guys!

Check the sticky at the top of this forum for all the references you need. If you need a good sub recommendation, I can't recommend Alpine Type R 10"s enough. They are dual voice coil and 500 Watts RMS. They are one of best balance of quality and SPL (boom boom) for your buck you're going to find.

so it seems it's best to get a new head unit. Any recommendations for one?

I've been using the Pioneer Avic Z3 for years and I still LOVE it. It's a little pricey, but it's an EXCELLENT headunit. Any of the newer Pioneer units are pretty solid

this may sound like a really noob question, but i researched and cant understand things in simple terms. What are the differences in subs thats are 4 ohms and 2 ohms, and how does the amp fit in to this equation

I would go with a head unit first and go from there... Pioneer,Clarion,Kenwood and Alpine are good choices to look at...

I kept the stock radio and went with a line out converter to push RCA inputs to the amp. I run the stock speakers off the stock stereo and dual 8" subs off the amp. It work well enough, but I would recommend replacing the head unit. There are so many better IPOD and Bluetooth options that you get with the new head units that make it a way better upgrade.
