Angry Is it just me...

...or does the factory (non-Bose) cd player SUCK?! I can't drive down the highway without it skipping like crazy. It skips every time I drive over a joint in the pavement, especially on bridges, or even the slightest bump/crack in the concrete.

Is this normal? It's been doing this ever since I got the car, but it's becoming increasingly annoying. Everyone that rides with me says, "you have this beautiful sports car, but the cd player is this horrible?"

Has anyone else experienced this before, and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks in advance...

Sounds like you have a problem with your cd player. We replace a few a month for the same problem.

yeah its actually pretty common. It's worth it to invest in an OEM MP3 or 6 disk changer. -- i personally reccomend the MP3 player, you just pull your HU out and replace the cd player part with the MP3 player. and put it all back in. takes about 30 mins and everything works just as before, except it playes MP3 cds too.. and NO SKIPS!

I've found that over time my Bose cd player has begun to skip more often. Originally it didn't skip at all. Now it skips (on average) once every 30 minutes of drive time - sometimes more, sometimes less.

That all won't matter in about a week when I install an aftermarket HU and the Corksport stereo replacement module.

Yeah, it's strange that it's not a consistent thing (the skipping, that is). Some days it hardly skips at all, then others it's ridiculous.

There are times when it will skip when I drive over a bump that I hit the previous day when, that previous day, it didn't skip and wasn't going any faster or slower...

Guess I'll consult a dealer...

The bose and non-bose cd players are the same. I recall reading that the six disc and mp3 have some sort of skip protection.

The Bose unit I used to have did skip from time to time, but NOTHING like what you're describing.

The OEM Mp3 unit I have now is MUCH better. I don't think it's skipped ONCE since I installed it in October.

Is the OEM MP3 unit that your referring to a dealer only part, or can it be purchased from elsewhere (possibly a forum vendor)?

The skipping drives me crazy! i didn't realize other people had the same problem, but I was definately going to mention something to the dealer when I take it there. Does the mp3 HU look the same as the factory?? Does anyone know how much the upgrade costs? Thanks
