Jedi's Bose Stereo Upgrade!
#76
Looks awesome Jedi, absolutely awesome.
I'm just curious. How do the subs sound in the enclosures? I was considering ripping your system off and doing 4080 boxes with those same subs
The subs are made for smaller enclosures than the .85 cubic feet that the 4080 boxes are sized. Do they sound good still?
I know that everyone raves about your sound I'm just curious about how they sound in slightly larger enclosures than they're meant for.
Do you have any pics of the remote bass ****?
Thanks man

Hey Salamanth, I'm glad you like the system!! I remember talking to the maker of the boxes and he said that when he designed the enclosures, he did have the JL10W6's in mind. I don't remember the "optimal" space that JL recommends but I think these are within .2 cubic feet from that figure. The truth is, these subs sound REALLY good in these enclosures. I had subs in my last car with bigger boxes and these JL's in the boxes sound better.
I don't have pictures of what the bass **** looked like before I altered it to fit in the car but I can take more pics of it now if that's what you're looking for. Just let me know.

yup, I unscrewed the case it came in and cut the circuit board. They used a huge board with hardly any circuitry in it so I was able to cut off about an inch on each side to make it fit.

Thanks, 4080
If you're still worried, you could always add a couple pieces of styrofoam to the inside.

The bass is very clean, but you will definitely have to dynomat parts of the car.

Yeah, Rotary Rasp was the guy who stepped up at the last minute for this install when my shop fell through! This honestly wouldn't have gotten installed the way it did without him.

you're doing my exact setup?!
As for advice: make sure you dynamat the week before becaues it WILL take all day for this stereo install. Don't rush, and don't be shy about cutting the rear deck if you decide to do the rear tweeters.

haha Yes, I am going to try to do the same setup. I will add the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 as well. What did everything cost you? I am still doing research on all the items before i buy. Gotta do your homework ya know?

Have purchased the box still shopping around for subs and amp but this site is really good for enclosures, He makes custom boxes to fit right into your rx-8. Great seller fast shipping..... Check out his feedbacks....

OMG, thread hijackers! Thanks for the info on the box bill, but this really isn't the thread for it.
Oh, I forgot to post my newest dynamat creation. After I got done installing my stereo I noticed that the door rattle (for which our cars are so famous for) was getting a little worse. Here's the quickest fix for that out there:
damn, just noticed the picture is not on this computer....stay tuned.

I try not to think about how much I spent on this project because it definitely wasn't cheap. I did however get exactly what I paid for.
If you go with 4080 boxes, there's close to $600 just for the pair.
-Subwoofer and amp will probably second highest in cost. This cost will vary greatly depending on what brands / models you go with.
- Installation can be quite expensive but you can save that if your'e willing to do it on your own.

hey jedi, i know you did this install with some guys here on this forum, but do you know any shops that can do something similar, specially with the bose system. I don't need anything that big, just want to upgrade the 'bass' on the bose.
I live in long beach, so maybe u can point me in the right direction here seeing that your located in newport. I just dont want to go to some local shop and have them work on a system they're no familiar with. the bass on the bose really sucks

+1 that the Bose bass is pretty crappy!
I actually do know of a shop in LB who could do some work for you. Let me find their info and I'll shoot you a PM.
Yeah, this project ended up being much larger then I originally anticipated and fortunately Rotary Rasp came to the rescue or it wouldn't have gotten done in time for SevenStock.
