I went with the Mazda unit because of the firmware issue. I'll take a little pause now and then over having to remove the head unit, ship it off for a $100 upgrade, and then re-install it. This is a good alternative for 8s with pre 9.55 firmware, IMHO.

Hey give the upgrade a break, it is very easy and is done by an engineer who maintains the warranty 100%. Besides hundreds (maybe thousands, you'd have to ask Thew) have been done.

The ipod adapter/xm direct hookup described in this thread will not need a firmware upgrade. It uses the MD/Tape interface as described earlier in this thread.
Unfortunately there are no updates on this...so I don't want to get hopes up...I'm still working on it. There is a solution but I may need your guys's help to contact...we will find out soon.

I was inquiring about the behavior of the unit, smartass. What do you 'mean' by slow, not 'what is the meaning' of slow. Sorry if you're slow.

Anyway, I'll probably go with Mazda's, despite that 'slow' comment and the weird playlists. Can't bother upgrading the firmware.

Is this the adapter for this thread? If it is, it states 9.55 or higher firmware.
The PIE MAZ/PC-ALP allows you to connect most Alpine 6 disc CD changers to most 2002 to 2005 Mazda factory radios through the 16-pin CD changer port located in the rear of the radio. * RX8 2004-2006* Tribute 2003-2004 Miata 2003 - 2005 B-Series Truck 2003-2004 * Firemware must be ver 9.55 or higher to work correctly. WE can upgrade your HU just ask.

Actually that is an entirely different unit. A crystal clear audio input we have sold for over two years. It is not ipod specific...people use it for audio in with all sorts of mp3 players, video game systems (ie me
, computers, and dvd players.

I know...I wish the manufacturer would hop on this thread...unfortuantely they got a bit big for their britches.
I'm going to try to get their public contact information then maybe through a group effort we can get the ball finally rolling.
