Everything needed for Install
I have a 2004 Manual Rx-8 with stock radio and base package. I stripped my system out of my old car which consists of
1. 12W7 in a High Output box (it fits perfectly in the backseat if you simply put it upside down)
2. 6x8" JL TR's (2 pairs)
3. Alpine cda-9886
4. Jl Audio 750 HD amp
5. I have all necessary cords and power wires.
My question concerns the metra Dash kit, as i have heard a lot of problems with it. Is it reliable? and is it too hard to put in? Also, would it be possible to leave the stock radio how it is and simply place the head unit in the ash tray area? maybe have my local shop build a fiberglass enclosure?

The Metra kit speaks to Metra's overall quality IMO. I used their products professionally and exclusively for years. Mixed results. And that's what you'll get out of the Metra RX8 kit. Sub-par finish and a 75% chance of success.
Go for it or leave the stock headunit. It's your choice. If you're leaving the headunit stock (which is fine), you'll just need a line output converter to install the amp, and thereby, the sub.

I love my rx8, and want to do everything correctly (at all costs I ashamed to say.) So would you advise me to connect my sub and install my speakers off of the stock head unit? Also, How would I go about making an Ipod connection?
