Mazda sent me this...

Dear Ryan,

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

I've been advised that, for your vehicle, the DVD is now available
through Navteq. The only updateable software is the Navigation maps
software released by Navteq directly. For DVD map updates, call
1-888-NAV-MAPS. Mazda does not develop, stock or sell this DVD.

I hope that this information helps!

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please take a moment to give us your opinion about our
e-mail service. Click or paste the link below to complete a brief,
online survey.

I called them up to ask. I spoke with a very nice lady that said she did have the disc and WOULD sell it to me, but recommended that I waited until the end of July when the new disc came out. She then took my information and said they would be emailing me when the new disc was available.

So now there's a software update you guys are waiting for in addition to a map update?

Or are you just talking about the old update for people who have systems that don't show the Mazda 'M' logo when the system turns on?

She said the DVD map was about a year old and the updated map DVD was coming out at the end of July. Nobody mentioned anything about navigation unit firmware. I gave mazda my VIN, so my car might not need it.

Word on the street is the new maps may not work with the old firmware. Flippin idiots.
tabularasa - The newer versions have a Mazda logo show up on startup, though at this point we're not sure where the cut-off is. I know I have an older version and would like the upgrade.

I think we may be going for a group discount on the maps at this point.

The firmware would be free.

My car will need the updated firmware. We started having problems with the nav system. I called the dealership and they said they needed to check it out and contact Mazda first.
I decided to wait until things settled down first. Maybe end of July.

Any chance of a group buy for the updated maps?

Navteq logo = old Nav Firmware

Mazda logo = new (required) Nav firmware

w/o the new Firmware you can't run the updated Nav disc (or so said the Mazda support person). They did say some time in the next couple months registered owners should receive a software upgrade disc in the mail.

Navtech said August, est price $199.

Talking to Mazda now, they said late July early August.

I asked if I could get a free upgrade, he's checking now....

He came back from hold and asked "Am I looking for the OS upgrade or the Map Upgrade" I responded "Both, and can I get them for free since the maps were 2 years old when I bought the car".

Back on hold...

Okay, the "Zoom Zoom" music is getting a little stale...still holding...

Late July/Early August...I do not get a free anything. If I buy the MAP it will come with the updated OS

does anyone know what the build date is for cars with the new nav units?

Also, how much of the system is new, is it just the drive unit in the rear compartment?

Sure... kinda like it was late July - mid-August that last time they gave us a date...

I've decided to assume we'll never get it and be pleasantly surprised if we do.

not to be a total pessimistic *** but last year this time they were saying the exact damn thing...I am considering different approaches to ending this mess...but one thing is for sure, I will not pay for that damn disc...f-ck mazda on this one (although overall I like mazda this came down to business men being very very cheap as usual)
