Well I just called the lady I have been talking to at Navteq, who has been completely straight forward with me the whole time so far. She said she was suprised that Navteq has not updated for the new releases yet, but assured me that it would be out before the 15th. She updated my registration with my phone, email, and address so I will be getting a alert as soon as the new disks are out. The price should be $199 plus S&H.

I also just got off the phone with Navteq. She told me that the new maps should b eout by the end of August, and that Mazda should be sending "application Update" CD's to those of us with older firmware versions on our Navi's. She tenetavily quoted a map disc price of $199 US.

Let's all make sure Mazda sends the updates out, or call them if you are running older firmware and don't get one from them (I have an early build '04 with the origional firmware myself, so this will be a welcome change).

From Mazda

Below is an email I received from Mazda

Hello Robert,

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

Mazda is actually going to be releasing an operating software upgrade
to all consumers who need it. This is not a map update and only a
operating system update. The map update will be available for purchase
through Navtech directly. The new operating software should be going
out to consumers that need it within a month or so. I checked our
database and your information is in the system. If for some reason you
do not receive this update, you can contact us and we can see about
sending it out directly.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda and for your patience in this
matter.

Regards,

Daniel Murphy

... this whole thing is driving me nuts.

It is now August, 2005. Soon the data will be 4 years old on my NAV system. I bought my car TWO MONTHS AGO!

Why can't they get their act together and issue the damn update

I have a DVD burner, it takes me about 10 minutes.

With the amount of data they have, and to compile it for our s/w version, it should take 2 hours on their Cray computer...

I don't know who I dislike more, Mazda or Navteq... (I'm leaning more hate towards Mazda...)

Anyone live near their HQ?
I suggest that if we do get this disc (finally), we all mail our old disc to the guy closest to their HQ... then we can litter their front lawn with these DVD's

Alright then, do we have a volunteer!

I will be sending you my NAV disc as soon as I get a new one (I'll be pushing for a free one since I bought my car 2 months ago...)

You cant just copy the Nav disk, it will not work. Its a DVD Ram I believe (Could be wrong, but it is not a regular DVD). Also you dont need to worry about getting the OS update from Mazda because the Map will come with this upgrade included with it. Most of the problems is because of Mazda not Navteq. But everything should be made good before the end of the month.

I live pretty close too, but all this is going to do is make some poor janitor service guy go spend his morning cleaning up the mess while the big shots do nothing. I honestly cant complain much about the old versions we are running. I've never had the navi say "street not found.." or not find something I'm looking for. The only thing is that last night while I was leaving the Irvine Spectrum my nav wouldnt show any streets. I had to select a destination for it to finally show where I was (not that I was lost or anything) It had never done that before.

But yea, an update would be nice I guess... just dont think I'd spend much money for a new DVD disc (a FREE one would be nice).

On Sept 15th they'll tell you next week/month/etc. This has been going on for years. On a positive note, Jesus loves you.

It is just data for god's sake... my antique computer could download the data over DSL in about 8 hours if they'd let us! Then I could burn my own DVD. GET WITH IT NAVTEQ!

I sent another email to mazda - here was the response.

Hello Tim,

Thanks again for contacting Mazda.

You may want to contact them again and speak to a supervisor. I have
been advised by my supervisor here that the disc is now available
through Navtech and Mazda has released it for them to sell. I really
wish I could give you additional advice but that is the only
information that was provided to me. Let me know if I can help you any
further by replying via this e-mail.

If you haven't already, please take a quick moment for a five-question
survey. Your feedback is important and helps evaluate my performance.

I called back to Navteq - no disk - does not know when it will be available - but speculates in the next couple of weeks.

I guess I will try one more time with Mazda.

I called Mazda and was told they still don't have an exact date on the software update that theyre going to send out to all owners with the NAV system or the new map update and that they're "just as frustrated as us"

I doubt that

This is mazda's response I got when I asked when we will get the update.

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

Updated software for the map system would be available through the
company that produces them, Navteq. If you would like to see if they
have new software that you can get, I would recommend periodically
contacting this company directly. Their website is, www.navteq.com. I
am aware that they are currently in development of a new DVD and that
firmware will be available with it at that time.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please take a moment to give us your opinion about our
e-mail service. Click or paste the link below to complete a brief,
online survey.
