Spoke w/Mazda today.
They said the disks are ready, but they have to work out 'issues' first.
The guy said something about copyright issues holding up the new disks.
He said there are 3 parties involved: Mazda, navteq and 1 un-named party.
He said the disks are due to be released in June.
He also made it clear that Mazda will not be providing free disks to anyone, even those
people with 2005's with old disks. (like me)
If you live near NJ, I may somehow have many many extra copies to give out..
Time will tell..

as for TooBig's comment the 3rd party is Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.) who manufactures the DVD unit
I do not know for sure but it is very likely Navteq is a go, Mazda is a go, but Panasonic wanted a piece of the pie :D and some lawyer messed up the contract (I work at a law firm so I know )...I know for a fact a top Mazda executive is personally negotiating the contract to release the discs due to all of the calls (especially the angry ones)

I can tell you for a fact that Mazda NA told me that Panasonic is the 3rd party and that it is a contract dispute regarding all 3 (Mazda, Navteq, and Panasonic)...also I was told which executive director was handling the mess but I missed his name since I was writing down all sorts of info at the time...is there any reason why I need to get the executives name? (it was a pain to get all this info)

Interesting. I was also told by a Navteq manager that Panasonic was involved...I wonder if we should call them instead...haha
Folks, keep calling Mazda...nothing can make an executive work harder than hearing that his minions are being harrassed all day long. If you **** them off, they complain, and then in turn **** him off...well..either that, or they fire the entire staff everytime they get fed up with us. We have nothing more to lose..hell...its a toll-free number..guess who foots that bill...hehehehe

truemagellen,
One question, how long ago were the discs made, (that is if you know)? I ask because we bought 2004 cars with 2003 data. If the discs were made 6 months ago (2004) then they probably have data from earlier in the year basicly at least 1 year ago from now. I know the data will always be a little behind because you have to cut the changes off and produce a finished disc for replication. The problem is with all the delays we are now going to be getting very outdated data again. Just wondering.

I just talked to Mazda. Same old line...disk is being held up by navtech. When pushed, they dont hold the line very long. best he could do is "I'll document the call and your concern".
Bunch of crap.

I plan on it. Told him that while he is "documenting" the call, make sure to mark it "Customer is VERY PISSED".
Figure I'll just randomly call when I'm waiting on my computer or something.
If nothing else, by using thier 800 number, they will have to pay for the phone calls.

I plan on contacting a lawyer today with regards to this. Mazda can not sell a product such as the Navigation Unit "New" when the unit I purchased was already out of date and is practically useless to me. Why should I have to pay for it? I want my money back. I will keep you updated as soon as I talk to the lawyer.

Ash, most new roads (aka new develoments/homes) will not be on the new system. For instance in Denver there is a new development (including my house) with a new theater, shopping, etc, etc that won't show up. Ok not a big deal to me cause I know its there, but what happens when I go visit my buddy in Florida in his new house and decide to rely on my 2 year old maps to get there. Now if I know the maps are 2 years old I would know better than to rely on them, but people are buying cars yesterday and getting the same old maps. Plus, it is frustrating knowing that the current maps are there but some stupid contract dispute is not allowing us to get them . . . not to mention getting GPS software with maps implies that there will be current releases of maps available in reasonable timeframes.

I have the Navi and live in the Dallas Metro area.
The Nav couldn't guide me correctly through 75/LBJ loops because it's changed so much. Also, I have problems out in Frisco and Plano. The system shows empty land while there's been a lot of building over the past couple of years.

A nice step up!!!
I heard from Paul Winovitch at Mazda NA that the new disk will not be out for another year. I'm about to give up. If sombody has a particular person/extension at Mazda NA we could all call that one person and make a consolidated effort to see if anything can be done. (Paul it hard to get ahold of so he is probably not the person to bug. He is working on another issue for me so I don't want to burn that bridge)
I HATE MY NAV.

Class action lawsuit? Do we even have legal grounds? Yes, we have moral grounds, but morals and the law have nothing to do with each other.
Somebody on another thread meationed something about "his law firm". Perhaps they could answer?

I just want somebody from Mazda or Navteq to ride in my car with me while I demonstrate that I can drive for 20 miles on many roads and the friggin thing won't have a clue where it is the whole time. Yes this is in Maine but it is not undeveloped territory. I'm talking about towns where over 1/2 the houses cost over $300,000. WTF? The thing is a piece of. . . . Been there, Said that.

Well, if nothing else this bumped thread got me to call Mazda again and file another compplaint. I was told that there is a contract dispute between Mazda & Navteq and they are hoping to resolve it in June or July. I'm not holding my breath.
