I can see this same pattern in the pics from RX8SHNKVI forming in my dash also. The straight line on the right and the curve on bottom left. Interested to see what the dealer comes up with as solution. Quality of material is disappointing so far, although I don't know how much the previous owner may have influenced these failures.

Us Northeast people don't seem to have this problem. Seems to me that it is directly related to warmer climates. That sucks Mazda should step up to the plate and do something about this. It is obviously a design flaw.

Mine has done it too now, after this last cold snap here in Orlando. Honestly this is a pretty serious design flaw. Between this and the sun visor hinge they're went cheap on some things for sure. Class action anyone?

I didn't even notice mine until the wife pointed it out two days ago, now I cant stop staring at it.. make that two Jacksonville, Fl. owners with it now... fail.....

I am assuming these cracks are forming along the line that is there for when the dash splits for the airbag deployment. I know on the Hondas I have owned they made no attempt to cover up the airbag hatch, and it always stuck out as an eye sore. as much as I would like saving money by just buying the cover if mazda even makes it available, (I am a chep bastard) I NEVER want to disassemble an airbag to do it.

RX8 - Not all it's cracked up to be!

My dash cracked in the past few months and it is embarassing to even let anybody ride with me. My car is an '06 and doesn't even have 19,000 miles on it yet! It went from super cool to super ghetto. The cracks get worse with every shift in temperature.

If Mazda won't step up for such an obvious and egregious workmanship flaw, I know that I will never buy another. I will contact the dealership tomorrow and let them know about my problem (and that I am not the only one). Hopefully Mazda will do the right thing.

have you looked into UV protectant? Maguires makes a natural shine product that can help prevent this. Just DONT use armor all. That oil makes its worse.

Here's the fix my dealer came back with. Seems very fair and I'm taking the offer especially since I've got 36.6k miles and barely out of warranty but definitely out. Much better than expected I must say and now I'm back in love with my car again.

Went to Tom Bush Mazda here in Jacksonville on Tuesday. They checked out the dash and offered to contact Mazda for assistance but honestly were not very encouraging since as stated out of warranty 10 months. Indicated repair estimate $700-800 range. I offered info from this forum re: possible part for dash only and indicated all the noise this issue causing online and they took that down and must have passed it on. Called later that same day with this offer. Mazda to split cost of part with me 50/50 and dealer to cover labor to install. The part is $410 so my half is $205. Taking it and moving on.

Well, I'll tell you guys one thing, don't think because you live up north you're immune to this cheap plastic. Mine cracked and we've been having record lows lately. I think the combination of sun and cold made the temp changes enough to crack it. And as far as Meguire's goes, I've used that crap since I bought the thing and keep my interior pretty detailed. Just add it to the cheap mazda workmanship. It's also funny that the dash cracked when the car is sitting waiting to go in for a new engine.

You can buy a brand new Dash cover for $300, so why would you buy a second hand (already possibly heat stressed one ) for $250?...unless you need the Air Bag Module?

While I've not had any trouble these past yr.s.As of late it's been realy costly,I had a "H" crack dash,Mazda said sorry,we'll sell replacement 450$plus shipping, took awhile but found used airbag assemable with cover at Soflow auto salvage,FL.He deals in RX parts.Dash was sooooo easy to replace myself.Few mouths later my "little yellow wheel on my dash guages"came on!!!Mazda said sorry,we'll sell u one 1700.$+500.$install/Soflow had one but no warranty.I went ahead and bought new/one yr.warranty, the light"wheel"on dash was still there.Mazda said now it's the Electronic power steering module 1200$again Soflow had it but no warranty/ I bought again with Mazda they install and now car is show room prefect,I love this car it's the Touring package, sunroof,Bose 9 speaker sound/ Automatic a real head turner!!! Now that I've spent this much I'll keep it.Now I'm wondering what I might do to engine/that's not real costly too improve on power???Thank's aaaalllllllllllll for your tme have a great life!!!!!!!LOL

Hello people. I have a 2004 manual Rx8 and I found this forum looking for answers for my clicking, non operating sunroof. Glad to see that I'm not the only one with the cracked dash problem. I stay in Alabama, but after reading the post, it is definitely a manufacturing defect. I bought my Mazda new and babied it. I have tinted windows, but didn't use a sun shield on the front window. My Rx8 is my only car, so I drive it regularly. It is in the weather during work and under the carport at home. After about 5 years the cracks started to appear. I'm going to my local dealer and I am going to encourage them to meet me half way on the dash issue. I'll definitely use this forum as a reference.
