No, just waiting...

I'm waiting for them to fix compatibility with the North American version BEFORE I order. But you can feel bad for the pioneers who were the first to buy it and intstall it and have problems.

So let me get this straight. Wether i'm keeping or replacing my Bose speakers, I still need the $110 TBX-X001? and if I want my steering wheel control to work with my aftermarket head unit I need the $146 FPC-T001?

I just want A/C, Hazard singal, Steerling wheel controls to stay, other stuff, I dont give a fuxk. Cuz I want Aftermarket NAV so BAD ! Pioneer or Alpine. You name it ! (tthose new hdd nav looks sick, I want one but I cant ! you know how bad that feeling is ! argh !)

Yep this does suck. I love my car, but I could have bought an RSXS for $10,000 cheaper , put $5,000 towards turbo kit and other mods, simple head unit install, banging system, and still come out cheaper and a shitload faster.

did the dealer lie to you about the stereo when you bought the car? I mean you had to have noticed that aftermarket was going to be a problem. As for the RSXS...please go to carmax right now, and sell your 8. Im not saying that the car doesn't have its short comings, but I still love it, look at how many people are atleast trying to come up with something, the rx8 is still a baby, and if you feel that you were cheated out of your money, or wished you had a different car, then get rid of it and stop whining about it

I'm not really whining about it. I pay my money for mods just like you. It just sucks how difficult they made it to change things. I'm also not saying I like any other car better than mine. I love my car. I just used the RSX as an example. I guess what it comes down to is I’m just a very impatient person

To satisfy all the anti whiners I went ahead and ordered the North American Unit along with the TBX-X001 which you need to work with the Bose stereo. I also bought the FPC-T001 which keeps the functionality of the steering wheel controls. Finally, I ordered the ACC-501 as well. It is a cd tray cuby that takes up 1 din since my head unit is only a 1 din. I wen't through Derrick at corksport who was able to help me with pretty much all the questions I had.

Yes. the new north american version works fine with our cars. I'll let everyone know how it works out. I'm guessing its going to take at least 4 to 6 weeks to get here from Japan.

For an estimate I got about $250 for 6 hours of labor & parts. That would include installation of carpc (1din), indash monitor (1din), and the dash kit.
Did you ever get this finished? We're all eagerly waiting for some info.

Wasnt it extremely clear when you got in the car for the first time, that the stereo system would be a bitch?

At what point did you turn on the radio and THEN think to yourself "Oh dear, stereo bling is gonna be a bitch.." and then you blame Mazda?

Ya..this is my first post on THIS forum, but I wasnt born last night...I cant justifiably complain about Mazda's design here considering it was obvious when I first sat in my 8 nearly three years ago.

No frigg'n joke. Hey, sorry to everyone for bailing, but i had such a bad experience I didn't feel like even showing my face back here.

The original plan was to have the carPC and the indash monitor in the front dash. That wasn't possible due to the length of the pc, it would have stuck out way to far. So it got mounted under glove box, which is nice because it'll keep it cool and I can still kind of reach around to turn it on and pop dvds into it, but that wasn't the main problem. The dill hole that installed it did NOT look out for me at all. When i got the car the sound was awful! The Engine noise was terrible, and the monitor's power would just turn itself off, plus other issues. It's just a disaster!

Also, there isn't much on the display. All that shows is the airflow symbol (in car or through car), where you want the air directed (head and or body), and defrost symbols. No temp & No time. And the funnest thing of all, NO DAMN HEAT! I can't get an ounce of heat! I'm gonna be screwed big time when winter comes cause the windows will fog up and I won't be able to see, not to mention freezing my bleedn *** off.

I sill want this damn project to work out some how I just don't have a clue how. I might be getting an Eclipse receiver installed tomorrow for better sound in the din that isn't currently be used. There is no way that I'll be going to the same place for this next installation. (that is if i don't decided to just scrap the whole thing and get the original dash put back in) But what can I do about the heat? Especially now that summer is just about over? Plug in an electric heater?? hahaha... God I'm screwed.

Here's why I blame Mazda:

What benfit could there be for integrating the air controls and the radio?

It's makes it a pain in the *** to replace, and if there is a problem with either system, you have to replace the whole damn unit. There is no benefit to the customer.

I knew it might be difficult to replace when I bought the car, but I didn't dream that unplugging the radio would make the air conditioning stop working. We can still blame Mazda for the boneheaded design.

Also, Pendragon... that sucks. You think it's a problem with the product or the install?

It's hard to say, but considering that the heat will not come out no matter what I push, I'm leaning towards saying the Kanatech device. The place I'm going to tomarrow is the BEST installers in town and we'll have to see what they say. They are going to take a look at everything and see what can be done.

Hmm, they should have winter in Japan, right?
So I don't think the product won't let the heater work.
Checked the wires/contacts?

pendragon, was the unit you received the north american version? Corksport told me latest north american version works fine with the display and the temp controlls. The only thing they aren't sure about is the steering wheel controls which I didn't mind taking a risk with. I'm not thrilled about it but since I don't drive my 8 at all in the winter, no heat wouldn't be too bad for me.

I can't imagine they would release a kit that disables heating. That would be plain dumb...
I think it's safe to say that most potential customers wouldn't install a product that cripples the car this way. I live in Cali, but no heat would be an issue I don't want to live with.

i couldnt agree more....i cant imagine that someone would make a kit, charge that much for it and have it disable something as critical as the HVAC system....it doesnt make good business sense....were not talking about an old neon or divic here (no offense intended) ..like you Redlined i could live without the steering wheel controls but everything else should be kept intact...

cant wait till ya get yours Redlined....

Well I'm through with the Fing thing. Good luck to Redline cause you're gonna need it brother. I'm cutting my losses here and now. After driving the car from the SECOND installation place, I had nothing show up in the center display, however the engine noise was gone, but at the sametime i was getting large amounts of distortion through the speakers. So i'm saying screw it, if anyone wants my kit I'll put it up for sale sometime soon.

I have another question pendragon. Do you have the Bose system? and if so, did you also get the TBX-X001 which is required to work with the Bose system?
