There won't be much time to tinker around with it as I want to get everything installed before going to a car show in Chicago at the end of the month.
Let me know how The kit is I am Thinking of buying one.

I don't think I'll be the one installing my equipment, (I'd rather leave it to the pro's cause I don't know squat about wiring). But I will take some better pics of the individual pieces (better than the tiny little pictures from Corksport that is) before installation and give my thoughts on the quality of the material and stuff like that.

ROck On!!

It's here!!! It took for freaking ever, but it's here. It came a few days ago. I was in such a hurry to get an estimate for installation that I didn't have any time to get some pics until now. All of the pieces seem to be high quality. The faceplate isn't piano black, but with a little painting over the mat black, who'd know?

I will get around to scanning the manual as well for those of you who can read Japanese. (The tech pics are extremely well detailed.)

I am interested in how much of the stock display still works. I don't see any buttons for setting the clock.

That's because apparently you'll lose the display with this kit - and the hazard switch as well.

The hazard swtich?? Wow. I might be interested if you could at least still see the temp on the display. Otherwise I think you just lose too much.

Reading between the lines

Here are the scans from the manual. As you can see the hazard lights button goes in the exact same place as it is now. As for setting the clock, that is a good question that Arby brought up. It may not show up once the installation is finished. But I don't see why the temp still wouldn't show up.

Here are the links for the scans, I only scanned the pages with the most tech drawings. These images are not dialup friendly.

I hope to get the "1 Din+1 Din" and the kit itself installed sometime next week.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but based on a quick glance at some of the pictures, I guess it looks like the head unit will still have to be relocated?

P23- I'm sorry about the small image; manual6.jpg. If you take a look again, (manual6a.jpg) you'll see the that the Kanatech device seems to be the only thing really replacing the head unit. It looks like it connects to the AC controls, the display, and couple other things..

For an estimate I got about $250 for 6 hours of labor & parts. That would include installation of carpc (1din), indash monitor (1din), and the dash kit.

Nope, you just need to take the ac controls and the hazard switch out of the stock radio. The rest is replaced.

Thanks for the instruction scans.

Looks better than I expected - not having to relocate the stock deck is certainly a huge plus.
I'm glad I was wrong about the hazard switch - on the photo it seemed it was gone.

Now the question remains whether the clock is still operational... my hunch is that it isn't since there appears to be no way to set it but maybe I'm wrong about that too

Actually, now the only thing I don't like about this kit is the price which could be less and the lame display of that "presented by Kanatechs" text. Wish that would be customizable...

I don't even mind that the face is not piano black as long as it perfectly matches the interior. In a way, not having the piano black can even be an advantage that the bezel doesn't get scratched or scuffed so easily.

No friggin' way... wait a second--did somebody just say group buy!?!? I thought someone just said that.... don't tell me I'm hearing things again...

Haha, oh and another question. JDM cars come with *climate control*... does the Kanatech going to just give us AC or are will it then enable actual climate control!?! (provided we can get our hands on the JDM *****)

As for the clock, I haven't really pried open the display, but I'm sure if you found the leads to the clock portion of the LCD you could feed it the signal from any standard digital clock... It would be a fancy DIY, but you could probably get it working without too much trial and error...

1 Din + Empty Pocket

Are there two separate models: 2 Din and 1+1 Din or just 2 different ways to use it? Does it come with an empty pocket if you want to install a 1 Din HU?

I believe there are 2 different ways to use it. But the offical item number on the front of the manual does say TBX-T003. Does that mean there is a T002 & 1? I don't know. If you do want an empty pocket, you'll probably have to make it yourself.

North American version in the works

I decided to call Corksport to get the definitive answers to questions that I (and probably others) had. The clock and temp _will_ work, but there are problems with the current (Japanese) version. He expects the new version in a couple of weeks that will also include an English installation manual. And it is just one version that supports a 1 or 2 DIN install.

So, I have to bare with Bose for a couple more weeks. I know I shouldn't complain. Going through the old threads looks like everyone here has been waiting 3 years.

Did they explain how do you set the clock when using this kit?
Any way to get rid of that stupid Kanatechs text?

I didn't ask that specifically. I was just happy to hear that I'd still be able to set the clock. I generally only set it twice a year, so I wouldn't care if there was some special button combination to get to the clock. I have no idea about the Kanatech display either, but if they're reprogramming it, maybe a petition would convince them to abandon the shameless advertising in their new North American firmware. Be thankful at least that it doesn't scroll the names of the programmers, project leads, favorite quotes, etc.

Update?

He said a couple of weeks, so I'm going to try to be patient (as bad as the Bose is and that it won't even play MP3 CDs) and wait until mid August before calling again.

Not to rant, but who makes a CD player today that won't play MP3? And the display is identical to my 2003 Mazda 6. I just can't imagine a company not updating technology in 3 years!

Wait, so you have the unit, and the KNA-055 controller piece, but there are supposed to be issues with compatability with north american cars? So we're holding off on installing this thing until you get the updated KNA-055 controller? Wow...raw deal. Waiting three years with no prospects is one thing. Waiting another coupla weeks when you've got the product in hand is torture!
