Actually, after speaking with Metra, Installer.com is one of the gauranteed first ones to get the kits. They are preorder only, and when the first batch is sold out, it could be some time until the second batch will be sent out. I would recommend that you get in on the preorder, to avoid being dissapointed.

I get updates weekly from Metra and Installer.com. As of right now they are VERY close to release.... and have two installed in test cars. Mid September is the latest quote from Metra.

As far as "marked up"... I dont really care if i pay 130 or 250... I just want the damned thing. Ive got my Avic F90BT all configured and ready to roll...

I'd much rather order directly from Metra. And they had those two installed on test cars for two weeks now. =|

I mean I could test all the electronics in a day. And two weeks hardly counts as a long-term reliability test.

I don't understand. Are they also in beta test?

Maybe they are programming to make also an automatic climate adaptor.

It would be awesome if somebody builds a double DIN PC like this one. Early stages of development it seems in this arena...

Definitely possible considering the technology involved in building a laptop.

Yeah that is pretty retarded. I could get one manufactured in China for less. Including development, testing, and production.

oops did that backwards quote should be on top lol my bad, by the way, i still dont understand why people put car pc's into there car, does anyone actually sit in there car and play on the computer in it or is it just for show? why not just spend money on a laptop? i dont see the point in having a computer in your car, maybe there are reason for which i dont know, thats why i am asking.

also metra said they were testing these and if all went well they would be out in 2 weeks if there were no hick ups, were going on week 3 now i think it is, anyone know if they are soon to be releasing or if they have had hickups?

Done! But even at $1K, I think it's pricey.

They also sell just the double-din case for making your own mini-itx carpc for $112.

They are out of stock right now, but I'm eagerly waiting for them to get more.

As soon as I know the Metra kit is being shipped, I'm buying up everything.

Not so bad at $1K. Even with this budget, you can get a higher spec, but I would pay for the look.
Nice!

But... with out tilt-able screen and build in CD/DVD drive. I am still interest in Infill G4.
Lets see how much I have to pay for the G4.

I think it's just a matter of taste. Carpc's are definitely not for everyone.

I'll have a fully functioning pc in my car for a lot less than the price of a high-end navigation/touch screen system.
It's also going to connect to the ODBII for car stats. I'll probably add a camera for track stuff. Plus tons of other options.

An awesome thread to checkout is alz0rz thread on his carpc.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/my-carpc-153088/
He spent just under $1k, and got a great setup, plus he spent more than he need just to get some better stuff in there.
His pc is leaps-n-bounds beyond any Navi system, and cost less.
Also, he has a much better setup than both the ready built systems a few post up, and he paid less.

If someone was just upgrading their radio, and spending a few hundred for a better headunit, I can understand.
But, to spend $1k and not get a carpc, is beyond me.
Of course, I'm a huge tech geek.

Oh, you'll be there. I still need help installing the second amp, and cleaning up the wires.
What are you doing the 13th? I'll call you.

PS - Don't you hate being subscibed to this thread?
Everytime there's a post you hurry up to check it, in case the kit is now shipping.

Hey Jedi, while we're a little off topic. You have a similar install to mine. Look what I did today. Cleaned er' up a little...

Maybe you could do the same thing? Covers over that cutout of the center divider.

firebird: that looks pretty slick! I was thinking about cleaning that up a little and I'm getting ready to install some extra cooling on the amp. I'll post pics after I finish up that little project.

they've been developing this kit since before March, including the electronics aspect. I hardly think long term reliability will be a concern with this kit, they may have the finished kits installed in cars for 2 weeks, but they've been testing/developing different aspects since over 6 months ago.

Not sure if it's from Metra or the retailers..... but all kits are guaranteed for life. I wouldn't worry about reliability, unless it's breaking every other month. lol
