I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I will lean towards believing Canary. (Not just because he has the best color/rim combo for an 8)
Mainly because he's been talking about the Metra kit long before it was around.
Tons of people gave him a hard time about it. He swore it was coming, and now it's actually going to be available.

Whatever his sources are, they seem to be the most reliable. Not only that, but his $130 target is also the best.
I sure hope he's right again.

I agree, all these different information is just confusing and i rather go with the information canary have been providing. Im just gonna be patient and hope this thing comes out soon.

it is very true that the information is diffrent on the pricing but i think it is because since the people over at metra know canary they are probably telling him the price that they would be able to give it to people through him. (which is great by me!!) and i think that the prices that i got from just calling them out of the blue is diffrent. like i said, before i told sean about rx-8club.com he told me around 300. as soon as i told him and mentioned canaryrx8, all of a sudden the price went down. so i say BIG UPS to canary because as stated before (I am new here) these people know him and he has brought the info to us. i totaly agree when i say that we should just follow up with canary, he is the inside guy.

cant see hwo they think it wont be a big money spinner, they just need to look at these forums, and as canary stated before, the new model rx8 has auto climate controls.
i also dont see how the faceplate is going to be any different LHD or RHD, but how would i know. if i got something like i could return it if it dont work/fit id give it a go, imagine how good it would be (for them and us) if it does work :D
I am going to wait for the final pricing.
If it is in the $130 range then I will buy one and see if it works with the auto system.
If it is in the $300 range not going to bother.

Can retain the clock? hmm ... I miss my clock on display so much ...

I know my Navigation has Clock on the map. but its a pain sometimes if Im driving, and Im on another menu, I have to push the map button to get back to the map with time. not to mention the Time is MAD small I cant read it sometimes.

if its 130 bux. sheesh I probably trash my kit and use this one instead.

if its 300 bux. I can live without the clock on dash

I think its gonna be around $200 range.

And I believe it retains both Amb.Temp + Time capabilities. Plus the addition of custom text.

hey all, thanks for the props

Sorry I haven't been able to really push for this since right after the car show last week I got hit with several life changing events at once. The guy who gave me the msrp is the Metra rep for the shop that does my work and that's who they order from, so that price is what it is supposed to retail for, it's not a buddy/buddy price, so if msrp is 130 bucks, it shouldn't cost anywhere near 300 bucks, may or may not creep up towards 200 if at all but that's it, and that's people being greedy too Their goal was to come in way under the Corksport, otherwise releasing the kit would be pointless. I haven't been able to bug my source about a final date or progres towards shipping etc. but maybe I can give that a shot tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.
I mentioned before that you overseas/non-US guys shouldn't give up hope, they have contacts all over the world and they work with "normal" people (I'm just a guy they met at a car show after all) all the time on developing their kits, I'm sure if enough people contacted them, maybe a few of you can get together and ship some parts to them for development, like get a few guys together and purchase some internal parts and split the cost or something? I don't know, just throwing it out there, either way, they ended up producing a kit for the Mazda 6 for overseas after hooking up with some folks over there who sent them parts etc., surely they'll do the same for 8 owners, or it may just take a while for the 09's to be more readily available and they can build it using those for testing etc. I guess all I'm trying to say, is that I'm pretty sure they'll have something, it just might take a bit longer since it's harder for them to test and develop since the newer models are not as plentiful yet, if it were me I'd be knocking on their door constantly, offering up my car for sacrifice (or send them spare parts and split the cost with some buds etc.) just to help move things along, unfortunately I have a US model (doh!)

if MSRP is 130 bux then it should be lower than 130.

I guess I will wait, probably gonna take a few months

Got a hold of my source today and got some news on when it's shipping and I'm sorry to say they won't make the end of this month. The original target was end of July but there were some last minute tweaks and such and some other delays that murdered the deadline, so we may have to wait a few more weeks now. Sorry for that bit of a bummer, but hang in there, it's coming sooner than later, just gives folks mroe time to save up for that new deck they want to throw in there

I talked with them today. I was hunting for a sub woofer grill for bling. I placed a call to a "different company name". While talking he mentioned Metra. My ears perked up and I went into this threads spiel. He stated they are taking pre orders but that the unit should be official by end of August. I joked with him and stated that means end of September. He stated nope, should be August thinking I was serious.

So there is hope. I was thinking of doing a pre order but wanted to see what the final kit looked like and get a review first.

Can't wait to mount my bluetooth head unit .

Take care,

Brian

I dont know if anybody would be interested in this or not but i thought i would put it up here anyways. its just a face plate that somebody did custom and they're selling it on ebay. apparently a fixer-upper but you could probably get it for next to nothing..

eeeek, that thing looks rough, for a little bit more i could probably convince the guy who did mine to make a couple of them, but it'd be pretty pointless with the Metra deal coming. I can't imagine how that looked installed, yikes.

shoot, just a little more work and he could have had this:

all we did on mine is modify the stock piece, only we actually sanded, mudded, matched the contour etc.
