Compatible Mazda Radios

Knowing that our radio is modular, if I wanted to swap out my single CD unit for a MP3 or Changer, what cars are compatible?

...if any.

You asking about the headunit from another RX8? Or another car altogether?

If it's with another RX-8's head unit then yes. If it's an aftermarket unit then you need to find a module for the HVAC.

I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear.
If I wanted to swap in a MP3 player or changer from a different Mazda Model, could I?

The Mazda 3 and 6 have changers and MP3 players that are very easy to come by. Will one of these work in place of my single cd unit?

I think the thread you reference is correct, the components are modular except for faceplates. At the least, I know I've seen it stated multiple times.

So you're going to separate the actual player from the faceplate, exchange players, then attach the Mazda3 player to the RX8 faceplate?

Keep in mind that controls our HVAC as well. Even if the 3's radio controls HVAC, that doesn't mean they're exactly the same.

Give it a try. If it works perfectly, let us know. I'll add it to the FAQ section.

I'm going to go for it. If all else fails I'll post the thing back on Ebay. A few bucks for the chance is no big deal.
