V1 is one of the better ones that you can get. Escort's passport 8500 is another decent top of the line model. As to which one depends on what you prefer. Each has their strengths and weaknesses compared to each other.

Now, if you have metallic tint in the rear of your car, the effectiveness of the rear antennae of the V1 will be restricted.

You could go with an external Beltronics RX75. My thought is, it's the best currently on the market.

The BEL RX65 and Escort 8500 x50 generally fair comparably well, in any review I've seen. With the x50 edging in instant-on and the RX65 for POP.

The RX75 is sweet, but at $700 uninstalled, it's a bit pricey.

Valentine 1, without a doubt, best detector I've ever had. And the only one out there with directional aid.

Guys.. take a look at this !

http://www.stinger.nl/index.php?sec=index&lang=en

Look at the DSI .... they are using a new method ...detects at twice the distance a "normal" radar detector would...

Interesting approach. I wish we had more flexible remote installation choices like that in the States. But for us in the States, I don't know how the different radar and lidar frequencies match up (and I couldn't find any actual comparison to any units available in the States either).

I couldn't be happier with my RX75. It took a little work to get a good custom installation in my 8 -->DIY:Installing the Beltronics RX75 It's saved my *** dozens of times... even through Virginia I went undetected...has all the bells and whistles (pun?) does spectrum analysis, displays frequencies, displays and speaks non radar warnings as well, goes stealth when detected, jams lasers. And the price? it's cheaper than filling your trunk with $3000 worth of sound system, heh?

How do you tell if tint is metalic? and how much does it effect the detector. I have a car from Japan and it has factory tint on the rear window

As posted in my DIY....

$600 for the Beltronics Pro Kit from eBay
$85 for the mechanic to pull the bottom pan and drill/tap holes in the bumper and mount the front detectors.
$45 for the additional head unit blank plate
$50 to have a machine shop mill a perfect slot in the blank plate
$15 in parts for the custom electronics driving the dash cluster LEDs.
$10 for wire-ties, in-line fuses, terminal strips, etc

around 20-30 hours of my own labor.

enjoying the James Bond effect of my custom built-in stealth radar detector.....
priceless!

Craig Peterson of radartest.com is loved and hated by detector enthusiasts. This is what Valetine has to say about him:

www.radarbusters.com has what I thought was a fairly well written explanation of what the differences are between each detector and what makes one better than the other.
