I do not own any of these, by the way, but you would think nav-vision would have superior video quality over avelectronic because of its steep pricing. Then again, I could be completely wrong.

I ended up getting a pyle DVD player with a built in FM modulator. I figured that it might be the cheapest way i could get things converted over and have sound. Using the AVelectronics budget edition. If it works out the whole conversion will have cost me only about $360

this is the one I had but I needed a special voltage regulator to make it work which I can't remember anything about sadly:

These guys helped me with it and use to sell the powersupply...oh crap I just looked it up man their price is steep (price includes voltage regulator, powersupply, and wires remapped...so plug and play but still expensive!)

Well I got the AVelectronics budget version system and the pyle dvd player installed lastnight and it works great. I think total it cost about $360. Got it done just in time for a long 10 hour drive so it will get extended use testing. Overall I was extremely pleased with the video quality and the sound quality was much better than I had antipated coming over the fm modulator.

Stuck in a love triangle
geblack $360 for the whole thing...great job. You can always add one of those eBay rear view cams later on if you want for less than $70 (at least that's what I've seen most of the auctions ending at).
I'm going with the budget version as well since I never plan on doing a CarPC or anything fancy beyond watching DVDs.

I had intended to have this fancy schmancy mounting under plexi with a fan for cooling but after reading the temps on the HD in the bios it became clear that was never going to work...
so temporarily I turned it on its side with the bottom facing the passenger's side of the car...and used the nylon strap for the Tire repair kit
on its side like that is best for the hard drive heads anyhow

no problems whatsoever from the hard drive and I've logged over a year now on it
I never use the dvd drive while the car is moving...I do sometimes copy content from a disc when the car has been stationary
