I'd like to see a picture of it with the stereo mounted flush in the din. It looks crooked to me.

That's as flush mounted as it gets. A single-din non-LCD would give you the look you're thinking about. Those cheap flipout LCD screens all have that huge trim ring that you see. Jenson and Phase Linear both have that crap.
