For you LED freaks

 

Hey thanks! Funny how several people on Facebook said they purchased their V3 Tritons just before this coupon came out. Count me as one of them. Maybe a second set is in order.

 

Just wanted to add that the Tritons are so incredibly bright at night. Pictures really can't do them justice. They're so bright that to other drivers it may appear that your brake lights are always on.

Not sure if others would agree, but it seems like when you apply the brakes, they don't get as proportionally bright as filament bulbs do. A filament bulb will become (I suppose) twice as bright when the brakes are on, but the Tritons are already so bright by default that it seems they only get slightly brighter. Just thinking drivers behind you might not notice as quickly when you hit the brakes.

I still love the bulbs but just thought I'd mention this one thing and see if anyone else noticed the same.

 

Interesting... I definitely think they are brighter to begin with, but I felt there was a fair amount of difference when the brakes are applied.

 

i recently moved from a suburbia with small cities nearby to a super rural place and there are no lights on the road.

most people use their highbeam but i was wondering if i could replace the bulb in my fogs and make them strengthen my low beams output on the road.

i dont require the fog lights to work in the fog, but i do want them to not point into the sky like highbeams do.

halogen/led/hid? what will give me the most light output?


2nd Question.. is it possible to point the high beams down via an adjustment of some sort? so i can turn on my low and high beams at the same time and have it concentrated in one spot?

Do you have the first generation Tritons? That is the problem that I was having as well (strangely, this only occurred when the car was running, when the car was off they worked normally). The gen 2 Tritons took care of this problem and now they are dim with the brakes off.

 

Mine are the Gen 2 Tritons (with the new load resistors). There is definitely a difference in brightness when I apply the brakes, but it just didn't seem to be as dramatic as with a filament bulb. When you say yours are dim with the brakes off, do you mean they're just more dim than they are with the brakes on? I definitely wouldn't call these dim either way! I'll see if I can get a video of it.

Not that it should make a difference, but did you remove the inline fuse for your tails?

 

Yeah, using dim lightly. Mine are definitely brighter than filaments brakes or not. Not bright enough to be mistaken for brake lights when the brakes are off though.

I did not remove the fuse.

I'm thinking about putting in an order for these for my fogs, but I'm worried that they won't fit because that big heat sink might hit the oil cooler.

 

i just got the 3w cree led from vleds but they seem to turn off for about 30 seconds and turn back on. is it a defective led?

also i got one of those flanking leds for my corners and mine are also wired to work as parking and turn signal. would i need to have a resistor in there?

 

To answer your first question, I converted my fogs into HID. Works really well! You will have to cut off the silver reflector thing inside the light's housing. The bulbs are longer than what was just in there.
All in all, a great upgrade. I was going to go the LED way but I figured light output would be greater with the HIDs.

 

The CREE H11's are plug and play right?

or atleast more plug and play than a HID conversion is... right?

my electrical skills start and end with plugging into an outlet.

will both CREE and a HID conversion give me the same output?

 

I ordered two sets of the 3W CREE from VLEDs and all of them do the same thing...

I got these forward 194's. They're on sale for $4.99 and really can't go wrong. Granted it is only 1 LED, it is a very high power LED and is plenty bright with good spread. Much brighter than the factory incandescent 194. They've lasted me more than a year.

I ordered 6k and apparently when the 6k came in they weren't really 6k... more like 5.5k so they sent me an email asking if I still wanted them... I said to go ahead and send them (my HID's seem to be 5.5k ish anyways) they should be delivered tomorrow. I was planning to wait until I get my AEM CAI so I can do both while the bumper is off though, so it might be a few days. I'll update though.

thanks, do i have to do any wiring? or custom work/soldering? or is it plug and play?

Since vleds isnt carrying D2s bulbs anymore, i looked on theretrofitsource.com and i was wondering if i should go with 5k or 6k.

The foglights that bladeiai ordered are 5k, but my foglights are the blue tinted style.. im assuming the 5k will look close to a 6k.. or should i get 5k d2s bulbs instead?

Keep up updated! i want to know how they fit/ their light output to pull the trigger on them to see if its worth it or not.

 

They also said they will have 6k eventually, it will probably be a couple more months though.

 

OK, so I can confirm these will fit. Jusssst barely... The fan actually touches the rubber oil cooler shroud. It is the rubber touching the fan, and not the heat sink, plus with all of the fresh air there I don't think heat transfer should be a problem.
It started to rain when I was installing them so I kind of rushed through trying to get everything back together and didn't even get pics of them turned on... but I will try to tonight.

**EDIT** Also I found these to be closer to the 6k color they were originally sold as, if I had to guess somewhere around 5775. When they originally contacted me and said they were not really quite 6K I asked them to clarify what that means and they said they are +/- 500. I took that to mean somewhere around 5500, but I believe mine are more close to 6k as I have 6k LED's in my parking lights and they are much closer to that than my 5k HID's.

They fit in the housing with out removing the metal piece inside, but I think I may remove it anyways as it blocks light output with the positioning of 2 LED's.

Any input on their brightness? I assume you had to remove the reflector cap in the foglight housings to fit them.
