Are the vanity, map, dome, and door lights all using the same bulb? I'd love to get brighter output on those useless things....

They are not - the map and door lights are both 2825 lights (when you buy LEDs, buy 194s), but the dome light is a festoon bulb, 3175. I don't know exactly what the vanity bulbs are, but I am pretty sure they are festoon style bulbs.

If you're buying from VLeds, here is what I would use for them...

For map lights and step lights. WILL NOT FIT MAP

Dome light

Of course, they have them in other colors too, if you're looking for that.

The bulbs that YeahYeahYouWere linked to will NOT work in the map lights. I've tried, they are too big (they will work in the door, but they aren't that bright). The bulbs below will work, they are bright as hell and are on clearance right now. They will also work in the door, so pick up 2 pairs. Also links to dome and vanity mirrors. The dome YeahYeahYouWere will work also, but I'd spend the extra 2 bucks for the high power .5 watt bulb that I linked to. It will be much brighter.

The bulbs I'm currently using in my doors and in the dome location are from V-LEDS, but they are older bulbs that they no longer sell, so I can't post links to them. But, like I said, I'm thinking of using the same clearance bulbs in my door location and below is a link to the dome light that I want to upgrade to. Maybe my next order with them. Also, a link to the bulbs I'm using in my vanity mirrors (sun visor)

Current map lights, future door courtesy lights:

Vanity mirrors:

Also note the footwell lights with and without lights on. (they are more of a 5000K white than the 6000K map, door and dome lights but still look great).
One more thing: Almost all the brightness you are seeing in these pics is from the map lights, I can turn my current dome on and off and you can tell almost no difference (current dome is NOT using the high power .5 watt LEDs). This should change when I upgrade to the dome I linked to above.

Thanks for clarifying Aipex - I don't have VLEDs for my interior lights, I was just sort of guessing at it. I want to get map lights with side-firing LEDs though, because the ones I currently have don't work as well as I would like and they've got all the LEDs pointing straight out. I thought I had linked the high-power dome, but I guess I swapped links.

I highly doubt that you'll be able to fit a flank bulb in there. The map lights are funny, they are designed so that just the tip of a normal bulb pokes into the little housing. The bulb doesn't stick straight in though and the housing is very shallow. Getting a long bulb to stick through the hole into the housing is near impossible, you need a short bulb like the one that I posted to sit outside of the housing and fire into it. Look at the close up pic I posted, you can see how the bulb doesn't line up with the hole. If you are looking for something cheaper, I'm pretty sure the following bulb will also work:

Aipex - I took a look at my map lights when I got in the other day, and it looks like mine are actually way more centered than the one you show in your picture. Maybe I just have a narrower bulb or something in there so it's less noticeable, but who knows. I'll try to remember to snap a picture when I leave work.

I'm not sure if I want to swap my blue interior lights for white or not. I am very torn on the subject. Some days, I think the blue is cool, and some days, I feel like it'd be cool if I was still 19 but since I'm 25, I need to get rid of them.

Well, i guess it's totally possible that all map lights aren't the same and that mine are at the edge of build tollerances or something. I'd be interested to see what you can fit in your's (that's what she said...)

well, first off, what model to you have, that will tell you if you have HID or not. Second, you say you are confused about the headlight, but then you state, "like HID or holegen or parking light" which are two different lights and a type of bulb in one statement. So....kinda confused by your statement dude. lets start easy, what is your model?

The real question is do you have OEM foglights? If you have foglights from the factory, then you have HID headlights. No foglights? Then you have halogen. All the LEDs that I've linked to on the first page are for parking lights, fogs, side markers, etc. will work in either a HID or halogen headlight housing (well, if you don't have foglights, then the fog bulbs won't work).

If you are asking about headlights because you want to change to 6000K HIDs, then again, if you have stock foglights, all you need is the D2S bulb (V-LEDS is currently out of 6000K blue, but will restock). If you don't have foglights, then you'll need an HID kit to convert your halogens. You'll want an H7 kit.

Hope that answered your questions.

You have halogen. Here's a link to an HID that will work for you:

Aipex, sorry for the crappy Blackberry pictures, I don't have my camera with me on this trip. Anyways, it certainly looks to me like my map lights are a lot more centered than yours are. It might also be that my lights are just smaller in diameter so the off-center effect is less pronounced too.

Hey cool, they do look more centered. I think you'll have more options for sure. Look at the actual reflector dish in the map light though, notice that it slopes down right after the opening. So even if your bulb fits straighter through the hole, a longer bulb still might give you problems. Thanks for the pic.

Yeah, unfortunately, I think the only way to truly find out whether or not a bulb will fit is to buy it and try it. I'm leaning toward keeping the blue for now though. I'm kind of off and on about it, but everyone else seems to think it's pretty cool.

I still think maybe it's a bit too "young" for my tastes, but I guess I'm only 25 so I can still get away with it.

I'm thinking about trying to rig up a way to put LED strips on the underside of my doors, so when I open the doors it lights up underneath. My current idea is to use the bulb base with leads (like I used for my trunk lights), and probably drill into the bottom of the door to run the wires up to the courtesy light socket, but to be honest I haven't investigated any further than a few stray thoughts.

I need to replace my trunk lights too, as I busted both cathodes loading a bunch of crap in the trunk. I'm going to go with the LED strip lights this time I think.

I posted a link that said this is the kit that will work for you, so...

You can't get a halogen bulb that is brighter than HID. Brighter than your stock bulb, maybe. I can't really help you there, though.

If you're not confident in your ability to wrench on your car - don't practice on headlights. I would call around to shops to find out exactly how much it would be for them to do the installation for you. I am not exactly a genius with the wrench either, so I've started small on my car.

If Aipex recommends the kit, it will work. But as I understand it, it is not a particularly easy install (for people without experience) so you really might be better suited having someone do the work for you.

You should look for a DIY on the install. I thought the same thing when I first got my 8 but after lookin at a few Diy's on here everything came pretty easy well for me anyway.Good luck
