My courtesy light burned out on my driver side door. To replace the bulb, do you have to take apart the door or does the clear cap just pop off?

Clear cap just pops right off. If memory serves, there's a little slot on the buttom of the oval cover where you can put a flathead in there and just pop it off.

also....don't push the harness through the hole....otherwise you will have to pull the door panel off a bit and try to put it back

Amber LEDs are orange/yellow. I don't know if that's the look you are going for. I'm happy with my amber corners though, nice and bright.

Aipex8 - thanks for the great thread and all your LED info. Didn't see this thread till yesterday and also that they had updated the rear brake LEDs to make them brighter. Time to take advantage of the discount.

Do the rear side turn signal 7440 bulbs still require resistors to blink normally? Was thinking the amber LEDs or PIAA mirror orange bulbs

Yes, LED turn signals will need load resistors.

If you are just doing the rears you'll need these:

Thanks Aipex8. I'd love to change out the lights in the front, but taking off the bumper or going through the wheel wells it not very appealing.

I bought chrome amber bulbs from Autolumination for my blinkers - they were I think $2.49 or $2.99 each. They're not as bright as stock, obviously, but I think they're still plenty bright. If memory serves, those PIAA bulbs are really nice but very pricey. The chromes from autolumination were a great way to eliminate the 'egg yolk' look for about $10 or $12.

You can find the PIAA chrome bulbs for $26ish on eBay from a reputable seller. One person who had them on here said they were actually brighter than the stock bulbs. Sounds like its about double the Autolumination ones. I wasn't too impressed with some white light interior bulbs I bought so not to keen on going with them again.

I found some PIAA Chromes on ebay for $35 per pair, which is $70 for front and rear - for that price I'd just as soon shell out the dough for nice LEDs. Mine were $3.49 each, so about 1/5 the cost of the PIAAs. I am sure the PIAAs are nicer, but $70 is too steep for me!

That's me. I've got the PIAA's front and rear. They are brighter than a stock amber bulb. Worth the price. I originally purchased the Autolumination ones. I installed one, tested it, saw how dim they were and pulled it back out. For me it's safety first.

I would like to get LEDs for my signals, but probably won't until one of the PIAAs burns out.

Thank you for giving yourself credit - I had brain fade.

Glad to hear you are still having good experience with them and are lasting a decent amount of time.

Seems to be a general issue with Autolumination's bulbs - they are just aren't up to snuff.

Can't decide whether to go with PIAA chrome or VLED LED turn signals. The PIAA will be cheaper and less work since no splicing and dicing to put in resistors. Decisions decisions.

I assume it's easy to get to the rear tail light housings through the trunk?

Is the VLED discount still working?

I used my coupon limit of 2 purchases so i used Lexus's IS forums coupon (MYIS) and it worked fine

Oh and another thing, on the issue of voltage spikes harming my leds i created/made an exact replica of Apex8's resistor project but havent installed them mainly because i really really really dont want to splice any of the factory wires. I was wondering if the Buddy Club Racing Spec condenser and ground kit would prevent/lessen voltage spikes from killing my expensive leds. Anyones information/opinion is welcomed because my maplights burned out and now im sad.lol

I've been waiting for some yellow h11 for the fogs. I'd love to see some pics of these. I wonder how close to yellow they are.

These are amber, not yellow. More of a yellowish orange. Here's my car with amber LED side markers. They will be the same color:

I'll say it again. If you want yellow foglights, why LED? LEDs are all about getting colors that you can't with regular bulbs. You can get some really good yellow halogen bulbs. I've got a pair of PIAAs and they are perfect colorwise.

In the past the yellow bulbs I've tried look similar to stock halogen bulbs. I'm trying to get as close to a yellow HID as possible without having to convert to HIDs for my fogs. I was hoping LEDs might be the solution. Guess I'll try the PIAAs in the meantime.

Just remember, if you decide to go with LED's in the fog lights, you have to cut/ pull out the cap inside the fog light becuase the LED bulbs are too long with the cap still in place. After doing this, I do not foresee you being able to switch back to halogen without replacing the whole fog light. Anybody feel free to correct me if I am wrong here.

I've seen some weak yellow bulbs as well. Trust me, the PIAAs are YELLOW! Pics below.

Sure, you can switch back to halogen. In fact, I pulled my caps out back when I was still running yellow halogen bulbs to get a little more light out of them. If you look at pics of RX-8s in Japan or Europe they don't even have those caps, just a bare bulb. They add those to US cars to dim them because everyone here drives around 24/7 with fogs on.

Here are my PIAAs (without caps):

Oh ok, thanx Aipex. I was wondering what purpose the caps provided.
