Interesting approach; that should look great when lit.

Is the plan to have the center light up when the brakes are pressed?

You could do every other along the circles to light up when the brakes are pressed.

Second try:

The first one wasn't perfectly round.

I wasn't able get the plastic today so I did dome light in the meantime.

Just so eveyone knows, my camera doesn't do these leds justice. The contrast between the leds and the background is so high that it makes the leds just look like a big blob of light. They look 1000 times better in person.

I used some gloss black formica as a bezel for the led array. I'll take some shots of it inside the housing when I get home tonight.

Electronic Check Valve?

Does such a thing exist?

I'm having a problem, maybe someone here can help me.

The white arrow is the ground.
The red arrow is the out led ring. (12 leds)
The green arrow is the inner ring. (8 leds)

I want to power the outer ring through the resistor (100 ohms) to act as running lights. When the brake is pressed, I want both rings to light up without the resistor. The issue I'm having is the wire used for the brake is connecting to both rings. This is causing power from the outer ring to back flow and light the inner ring when the running lights are on.

How can I stop the power from back feeding into inner led array?

thanks for you help

wow rodger, looks cool with that plastic piece added.....would be perfect to "color" match in doing some more lights in the future. Imagine, a white plastic peice for white 8's, WB plastic....wow, would look really nice.

I see business opportunity here if your up for it.

It's called a diode. It allows current to flow in only one direction. The 1n400X (where X is 1 through 9) series of diodes should work for your application, if the forward current is no more than 1A. Radio Shack carries them.
