Yeah, exactly. Shows how low the RX-8 has stooped. Right down there with Civics in terms of typical owner's taste.

I have an 05 RX8 i plasti dipped the exhaust shrouds and have an aftermarket exhaust system with 3.5" tips and it has not melted or faded so far so good. Also drove it hard and for 2 hours straight and no issues at all.

My catless exhaust melted through 2000 Degree resistant paint with hard driving. I am pro-plastidip, but calipers, shrouds, wheels, etc exposed to harsh conditions is just a recipe for problems. Ill say it once and I will say it as much as I need to. Plastidip comes out the best when a spray gun is used, the can is good for small items only. People ask me all the time if my roof is wrapped and I simply tell them that's how plastidip looks when done correctly.

Yeah I learned my lesson, plastidipping anything sucks huge dong. Do it right, paint or wrap.
But, I did dip my faded rear shrouds, it matches the oem center rear plastic and havent had any heat issues.

When done right its just like wrap, but most people do it wrong and it shows in quality/when removed. It's not the product, just the user.

Yeah that is what everyone says online and it's a load bullshit IMO. Plenty of people who have had it done "professionally" have had the same issues when trying to remove it on a large scale. I have seen many dipped cars in person and not one of them looked good up close. From 50ft away sure.

I would never dip my entire car. Vinyl or bust for that sort of thing. I don't see the problem in doing wheels though.

Especially with the OEM alloys, I'd rather dip them than spray or powdercoat them, so that if/when I want to resell or just get tired of it, I can easily remove it without resorting to aircraft stripper or power washers/etc.

emblems are fair game too. it's more about picking a good schematic for your car and having it all flow well together with attention to detail.

once i get coils i will probably dip my wheels and 9k will hate it. :D it's all good

It's not a load of bullshit, honestly. I dipped my roof with spray cans and it was awful. Took hours to peel off with a pressure washer. I dipped my roof again and my oem wing with a spray gun and the finish came out top notch. I just pulled the dip off my wing after about a year and there was no residue and the dip came off in very large chunks. Had I spent 15 minutes peeling it instead of 5 I could have gotten the dip off in one full sheet.

Professional dipping means nothing really because unless the one applying the dip knows a lot about the product then they are just as doomed as you to fail. It's not like painting at all and that throws most people off. Most tutorials even outline the process incorrectly as well.

If a child can't tie a shoe would you blame the shoe? Trial and error sort of thing imo.

Dip sucks, it always looks like *** in person. Opinions can vary, but I can only base mine on the many plastidip jobs I have seen, including full resprays from shops who claim to specialize in doing it. But of course a lot of those who do it, defend it but also many who have done it regret it.

9 times out of ten it looks like junk.

There have been a few Plasti-dipped cars that i have seen that did look amazing.

Im not a fan, but i can't deny when something looks good.

I don't understand the hate. I just did my rims with plasti dip. They had curb rash and rock chips and the coating on the rims was chipping off. I used two full cans for all four wheels to cover up the scuffs and chips after very thorough cleaning. Yeah it doesn't look like a new rim. But for ten dollars and about four hours of work. I'm pleased with the result. I want new rims but not everyone has a grand or more to drop on rims and tires. So until then this is more pleasing to the eye than scuffed up flaking stock rims. Respraying an entire car is a little far out there. But rims, emblems, B-Pillars, and what not make total since to me.

Well some people have good taste and others don't. The people who have bad taste are blind to it. But in time people can change and most will look back at their plastidip days and think, "WTF was I thinking?".
