Getting carbon fiber interior next week....

...when i was getting my (wrong?) oil changed the other day, the dealer had 2 cars with CF interiors. Not replacement for the plastic, just an overlay. goes over the radio and around controls all the way down over the ashtray and back along the top of the center console. the steering wheel controls and door panel controls.

NO I DO NOT HAVE PIX.

I know this is a requirement, but I didn't have any picture taking devices at the time, but I will definitely post them when it is done. i suspect next week around thursday or so.

oh and here is the kicker.....BLUE for my blue 8, also comes in other colors for around ~$300.

not too gaudy, as I'm very particular about staying away from "rice-ness" and "gay-ness"......

sorry for the teaser, but I had to!

What kind of overlay? Vinyl print or actual CF with clearcoat? The former looks cheesy to me while the latter (as an overlay) would stick up ~2mm at the edges due to thickness right?

Cool Ebay....

These kits just stick on, and go for about $100 on the 'bay.

Omicron,

Sorry to disappoint ... I ordered mine on Tuesday! Yep, blue CF. Outside pillar too .. blue cf. I tried to find the post from the vendor (he spoke very low of the ebay ones - i have no idea how to seperate the quality) but could not find it. But you can bet i will post pics. To bad digital cameras don't run out of film ...

I found two places on the web.

Dash Kit Store
Kickin' Dash

Kickin' Dash doesn't have the RX-8 kit listed on their site but they are selling it on eBay. Are either of those companies the ones you get the parts from?

In speaking with the female that will installing it, she's says that it real CF, besides I looked at it in 2 vehicles, blue and red and it's the real deal. You'd think the thickness would be int he way or out of place, but it seemed to lay pretty close.

She says it's held on by the same type of 2-sided foam tape used on car badges, so there's no worry of it just "coming off".

she knew nothing of the b-pillars when I mentioned it, though I think that would be over doing it for me on the outside, personal preference.

From what I understand, she doesn't just slap it in, since the manufacturing process isn't 100% perfect she usually have to fine-tune them before locking them in place. The blue is pretty accurate to the paint.

She doesn't recommend the red CF for the red/black interior, it overdoes it too much.

This should be done about the time I get my "other things" from canzoomer.

If you want I can aske her where she gets her stuff rom, mine is on order now.

Whealy: Ask them if they can send a brushed aluminum sample to ya. I have been toying with the idea of getting one for the past few weeks but want to see a better quality pic than those far back shots they have.

How is the coverage on this CF overlay. At one point I was looking at kits for the FD and they all had issues. Around the edge you could see the original plastic, and around the shifter hole there was a huge gap, where the plastic was visible. That may have been due to some odd curve in the original material I suppose.

Happy to help. Personally i don't think it would look all that great with the console side aluminum strips. But for the exterior pillars ...

Hmm, those b-pillars don't suit my taste. When I get pics of my CF developed I'll post them, about the same as Healy had done, with a slightly different touch. though the lite blue in his interior is, well......different to say the least.

oosik - Are you going to go with black cf or a colored cf? When do you plan on getting it done?

Trussville has replacement imitation CF parts for the door handles, Window switches and center console.. Unfortunately it appears the cost is what someone would expect to pay for real CF.
