One thing I don't understand is why 7440s for the turn signals, when the Owner's Manual says something different "WY21W" ?

Can someone clear this up for me?

The owner's manual is giving you the Mazda part number or equivalent. 7440s are the universal part number. This is just a guess and if anyone can report differently then do so.

Scroll to the bottom to see their amber Chrome Silver Vision at a price you cannot beat! I've got them in front and in back and got the Super White versions for the reverse.

You cannot beat their prices or service for speedy fast delivery.
i got mine just in time for the Revolution!! white blinkers in the front, amber rear blinkersl and red led brake lights.. looks great and the price definitely can't be beat!

This would be great
and while you're at it, can you explain what the deal is with the information in the owner's manual (i.e. the owner's manual does not have 7440 listed as the blinker light, but it seems thats what everyone uses)

Sticky thread in RX-8 Appearance: 2004 Mazda RX-8 Bulb list

As for why they are different than what you see in the book, I have no idea. I haven't read up on it.

Looks like the guys at autoillumination are just as clueless - there's no turn signal bulb code on that whole list.

I received my Stealth Auto bulbs Friday April 30th, just in time to put them on for the Washington DC Mazda Rev It Up weekend! (Thanks, Todd)

This is my car on display at the Rev It Up Club tent. Nothing but rave reviews on how they looked. We had another Black RX-8 with regular bulbs so folks were able to see the difference on real live cars.

As for installation, it was realtively painless. You go in from the wheel well for the front signals. If you have small hands and are good at blind contortion, the front switch out will go very quickly. Took me 15 to 20 minutes each including switching out the bulbs in the side markers. The rear was much more accessible and therefore quicker. Once you got the socket out, it was just pull out the original bulb and insert the new one. Perfect fit/match. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting the socket to turn and lock when putting it back. But again, this is dependant on your hand size and ability to contort, grip and turn the socket with your fingers. Oh, and as for the part numbers, the ones in the owners manual are Mazda's in-house part numbers from their Japanese supplier, not the universal part numbers. (Or so I have been told) Here are my before and after pictures.

If you are considering these bulbs, the info cards I handed out at Rev It Up included a code assigned to me that gets you free shipping and a gift on orders. CC100 Anyone can use it if you order from their website. And the bulbs have a lifetime guarantee against failure. Terms are printed on the pack the bulbs come in. It says you have to return them in the same package and you pay for shipping and handling. I used the packages to hold the bulbs I removed. They are plastic and snap shut. Instant spares and I know where the packages will be if I need them!

I ordered the autolumination bulbs and installed them last night. I figured ~60$ was a bit steep for an experiment. I may have gotten what I paid for with autolumination (AL).

The stock bulbs took some effort to unplug from the connector. The AL bulbs slid in. I wasn't sure it was in all the way, as the stock bulbs click into place and the AL bulb didn't. I pushed on them as hard as I could w/o breaking the bulb, and they didn't move any further. I tested the turn signal, and they worked. So, I did the front and moved to the rear. I got one side plugged in, test, then put it back into the light housing. I tested it again and it didn't work. After much finessing and several re-installs, it worked somewhat consistently. I had the same problem with the other rear light.

I tried flipping them around to no avail. Luckily, the the rears have only stopped working once on one side, but started working again a few minutes later.

Has anyone else had problems with the AL bulbs? Do the stealth bulbs fit more like stock? I'd be willing to drop the 60$ now (though I still think it is a little steep for bulbs), but not if they are going to fit as poorly as the AL bulbs.

Also, the AL bulbs are pretty dim. They get the job done, but I reckon they are about 1/2 as bright as stock. Can someone with the stealth bulbs make a comparison to the stock bulbs? I'd like to get some of the brightness back.

Finally, has anyone seen any alternatives to these two companies? Specifically one that I might pick up locally instead of via the internet. I might go shop around this weekend. I'll let everyone know if I find anything worth mentioning.

I've done the following with AL bulbs without a problem:

Front and Rear Blinkers-(4)-7440 Done with Stealth'd amber regular bulbs

Brake/Tail-(2)-7443 Done with 9-LED Reds

Reverse bulbs-(2)-7440 Done with 9-LED SuperWhites

Corner Markers,front-(2)-194 Done with stealth bulbs

Lower Door Lights-(2)-194 Done with single,SuperWhite LEDs

Parking Lights(small lights on front nearest Mazda logo)(2)-194 Done with 6-LED SuperWhites

If you have defective bulbs, imo return them for replacement.

They work. They just don't fit like stock. I can't say that is a defect. They all fit exactly the same, so it seems like they were designed that way, thus not defective... just not right.

I just changed out a lot of the bulbs on my 8 Yesterday.

Reverse and Park lights.... LED Superwhite

Fogs to 80W h11 superwhite...what a PIA to get to the bulbs, once I figured it out though not too bad for the second side..

High beam to 80W h9 superwhite

Corners to 194 LED Superwhite

I installed the Stealth Signals and the 7443 LED stop/brake lights but went back to stock bulbs becaue they were too dim. The turn signals looked way better, but in the direct sun you could hardly see them. Looked cool at night though.

Also did the High brakelight mod with black vinyl for a mask. was a bit of a PIA to put in, but it looks great! Thanks to D menac 7 for the Artwork. The JPG was perfect

You're right, there's no point in installing a mod that looks good at night if you can only tell a difference (in what that mod does) in the day!

The clincher for me was the lack of visibility ( and safety) during the day. Kids tend to do things to your thinking in that regard!

The superwhites and the 8o Watt lights are great though. Got rid of the yellow-white high beams/park lights. Going to do the fog light rewire tomorrow...........
