stage II & WI

Just a question...

I will be ordering stage II at somepoint and was curious. You mention that stage II causes EGT to raise too high for the stock cat. If the stock cat/catback were used would we get the same 55 HP to the wheels?

The reason I ask, I use water injection on my 3rd gen Rx-7 and it it not only lowers intake temps, cools the engine and cleans the engine of deposits, but it also lowers EGT considerable.

While you dont usually put it on a n/a car, it works good with a high compression engine, especially if you change the timing, etc.

the other advantage is that it would allow you to run 87 octain even with stage II.

This is just a technical question I thought I would ask you about. I will likely go the route of changing out the exhaust, but I wanted your input. Someone may be interested in this idea.

thanks.

That sound like a great idea, although you have to pay close attention to the jets to make sure they are clean and the spray pattern is correct, water in any engine is disaster! I heard of a company called Erl who makes a magnetic type of injector, have you heard anything about them?

Cool Maybe.....

If it was a $2000 13 year old RX-7 'beater', you might give 87 octane and water injection a try....

But a $30k Renesis with 10:1 compression, running a mid-pipe and advanced ignition? You must be rich!

Water (usually vapor) injection, could prevent the crappy gas from 'grenading' the engine, until you run out of water or vapor lock.....hell, even a bubble in the line could crater your bearings in two seconds.

Is there a warranty?, well the makers of the plastic W.I. bottle may refund your $29.95......

I have water injection on my "crappy" 1994 Rx7, works fine. I have no doubt that water injection will work on an rx-8, but unless the timing is advanced or some other reason, there is no benefit. In this case the exhaust temps are vey hot, so the WI seems logical to me.

I dunno, I am crazy I guess.

Actually, I think that is a fine idea. I'm not sure how much it would reduce the cat. temps., as they are more related to how much it is burning, not so much the input exhaust temp. The water injection will reduce detonation probability. It will also improve fuel economy. Anywhere there is "winter", the user would want to use distilled water and ethyl alcohol. This is the only drawback I see. The alcohol would further improve detonation resistance (richening the mixture).

Ignore Doctorr, he just wants you to buy more of the expensive "good stuff" gasoline he makes .

Sorry but I think anyone who does anything to buy 87 over 93 is stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime. It's the cost of ownership. If you don't like it, go buy a Honda.
