odd cobb/ecu question

ill try to make this quick. years ago my 8 was totaled and my cobb was married to it but at the time my cobb wasnt working because some of the connector pins were jacked up. got the cobb fixed (thanks archwisp) but its still married. i gave swoope my ecu a while ago and just spoke to him. my question is if he plugged my computer into his car would it power on and would he be able to unmarry my accessport from it if i sent it to him? we are not sure if the ecu would work enough to do it if he connected it to his 8? would it mess anything up? my only other option is to send it to cobb for a reflash which is expensive

thanks

It might work. It depends on what the Cobb needs to do to authenticate the flash. If it is just checking the ID data it might work. The ECU won't work properly... but it should power on perfectly fine

whether or not it confuses the other CAN modules permanently is the question... I would guess no... but it would be a guess

Not sure on this one. Dannobre is one I would have asked. What year is your car?

If it were me, I would look for a wrecked 8, the right year. Then publish the findings.

Option 2 is look for a more modern tuner. People are starting to get back in the game.

Best I got

I don't think you'll mess up anything... stuff just won't work with the new ECU until it gets an AS BUILT flash. You may not even be able to get on the CAN bus because of the immobilizer freaking out.

I just unmarried my 2006 MT ECU from my AP connecting it on my 2006 AT RX8. Nothing messed up, but I didn't try to turn over motor, just put key to ON position. CAN bus did work and AP communicated with ECU fine.

NOTE: These were same year ECUs/RX8, I haven't tried different year ECUs/RX8 combination, but if you try please report finding.

Thanks!
