will Cobb save my custom ecu tune ?

I cant find a concrete answer to this.
I already have a modified ecu tune by Pettit. I have recently purchased a Cobb unit (no MM maps on it).
Before we get married I would like to know if the Cobb will save my current tune during the installation? I understand the cobb has to install its own ecu flash before it can be used?

I was under the impression that the cobb will save whatever tune is on the car now so it can revert back to that when you uninstall the cobb.

make sure to get a pre-nup before saying your vows.

Yup, it will save your custom ecu tune. I know it because one of my friend had similar problem, and then he took risk to check it out. And to everyone's surprise it was not disturbed

When you use aftermarket ignition coils, to get the most out of them ( i am boosted) the dwell time needs to be increased. Dwell time means how much time the computer allows for the coil to fully charge before it fires.
Do a search--lot of info out there

I agree I was concerned about what would happen with my Racing Beat reflash
when I started the MMCCS. The insturctions should say the OEM or existing custom flash.
That would avoid any confusion

The reason they DON'T say that is because:
1) I can't be responsible for such things; and
2) Because RB has been known to force a 2004 MY flash into a later MY PCM, the scenario of the AP not being able to install after it has wiped the PCM is a possibility.

I've had a few people with 2005 PCMs that were flashed by RB identify themselves as 2004 PCMs. The AP wont allow this.

Hey OD, Long time No see. How's the car been? Last time I saw it was at Andrettis. I miss you GA Guys. Tonight is our monthly meet at COBB in plano, TX. I 'm going to ask this question for you to someone at COBB specifically. I will post up when i get the answer, or maybe I can get them to post here directly for you. I am sure a few would like to know.

Hey man---good to hear from you!

That would be good.
I am a Cobb virgin! All I want to do for now is to change my coil dwell times.
Steve Kan will be looking at my car sometime this year when he comes to town. I know he has the Pro tuner set up so if I have too I will wait until then.

Wish you could get back to Ga---group has grown a lot and still raising cain!

Sorry it has taken so long to respond.
This came directly from Kevin at Cobb Plano :
"Kevin January 8 at 7:56am Report
Likely it will overwrite what's on there. My question is that if one is willing to get an AP,
then why is one worried about losing their previously written map? "

So take it as you will.

You know OD, You GA guys can come on out to TX.... or I can just come on out and visit you guys. :o)

^^ Ugh. I already told you what will happen (technically, Jedi told you and I confirmed it) and "Kevin" (whoever the f that is) is wrong.
Whatever is in the PCM will be saved in the AccessPORT. Are you guys just sticking your fingers in your ears because you don't want me to be the source of the answers? If so, let me know and I wont bother.

Next time you need and answer from Cobb (and not one from me), don't call one of the outside "endorsed" shops. Call directly to Cobb and ask for Shane, Brandon or Chris Haag.

Thanks for your help dude----i would love to come to Texas one day--i hear yall have a lot of fun out that way.
Guess the safest thing for me to do is to wait until Steve Kan gets to town?
Even if it does save my map like MM says it will and I have no reason to not believe that, I would still have to get that saved map back into my PCM after the dwell times are changed and I really dont know what the hell I am doing?
Is it just a matter of installing the Cobb and excepting its base map, then do my changes, then reflash my map back into the pcm? Can you do that? Or do you have to retune it with the Cobb?

well--i have found out one thing---my cobb will not install on my car that has a Pettit tune aready on it. It will not recognize it. That means I cant use it.
Now I am sure that some experts have a way around this, but for me--since I have NO idea --I am not going there.
I will just have to wait for another option--Steve Kan with his Protuner, Cam at Pettit has offered to e mail me a flash that I can install with the efi dude etc.
I appreciate everyones help and contributions in my little adventure and I do like some of the accessability that the cobb offers, but for now it is not meant to be. If Steve tunes it ( he comes to this area every now and then) then I am sure the cobb will be useable, but until then--thats it.

SO the answer is ...The cobb will not recognize your car if there is already a custom tune present in the ecu.

that's not accurate OD. Or at least, not worded properly as the Racing Beat flash is a 'custom tune' and the AP has no problems recognizing that.

Must be something to do with how Pettit flashes the pcm or user error?

IT will install right over the Pettit flash.
I've done it.

You are just doing something wrong, OD.

Steve Kan is an AccessTuner Pro dealer, not Hymee ProTuner

Likely the AP you bought used is either defective or was not unmarried by a previous owner.

true -- but I am sure Steve can get it done. I think he has worked with the Hymee version?

Like I said there may be a way of getting it done--I dont know, but its too complicated for me..
When I tried to marry it to the car --it would not recognize my car and would not marry to it.
The a/p I bought was never married to another car. It is the rx8 MT transmission version.
Updated software and race tuner installed OK.
It is the kind that doesnt have a dongle.
I thought it was simple just to marry the thing?
Its probably best for me not to mess with it--?

Why would you want to though? Makes no sense to use it over a tuned AP system.

As for your question, no comment ...

Where did you buy it?
