Team---agreed!
No, what I meant is when Steve comes to town I will get him to do the a/p tune, but ,he also has some experience with Cam's flash's so if there is any problems he will know what to do.
I kinda understand tuning and how the different tables intereact. It reminds me of the body's endocrine system which also has an open/closed loop feedback componet among other things. I am glad this computer/engine/car doesnt have circadian rythms to deal with, but heck maybe it does--I just havent been deep enough.

Jeff this is the one i bought from member DuBy, who said he bought it from you. You gave him a good bump in his thread, said he was a good guy etc. It did not have any maps on it when it was delivered.
Maybe my Pettit map ( done by Bill on site) has a lock on it?

OD

No, the Pettit map does not "have a lock"; it may be a newer flash version than the stock Mazda flash for that year RX8, like the racing beat one.

If you request a stock Mazda flash from Pettit/EFI-dude, you can than flash to anything from that starting point.

Ahh. OK. That makes more sense. You said:

Which didn't make sense.
But DubY's unit was installed and tuned for his car.
So, it was "unmarried", not a non-installed, brand new, never used unit.

He told me he never installed it and it didnt have any of your maps on it?
It didnt when I installed the manager etc on my home computer? Course now I am not an expert with it and maybe there is something I dont know to look for.?
The race program installed ok and the cobb maps install ok in the unit. It is just when I went to married it-- it would not do it.

Oh-- Ok Rote --what you are saying is that I need to revert back to a stock map via the efi dude 1st? Then it will marry up etc?

OD: If the AP was used before (sounds like it per MM), DuBy could easily have just removed any of his custom maps using the AP software on his computer that way he sends it to you 'blank' as if it were new.

As long as he properly uninstalled / un-married it from his vehicle, it should be able to work with yours.
does the AP properly recognize your vehicle? year / type? (Fed , CA, etc)

What exactly is the indication of an AP not being unmarried?

Vehicle number? You mean the year/model? What happens when you press "OK".

It will give either a "COMM error" or say "wrong vehicle", IIRC.

Thanks, never tried to install a married unit to another vehicle and had no idea

and unless you've either taken the MM seminar or gone over it in detail with someone who either works at Cobb or has then you likely don't understand how the tables interact. I've been through it several times and taken the seminar and still don't consider myself an expert. The OE strategy is so complex it will not always do what you expect to make sense.

OK BREAKING NEWS
MY CAR IS MARRIED TO THE COBB. IT DID SAVE MY PETTIT FLASH AND IT DID LOAD THE STOCK STYLE MAP ON THE A/P LIST.
NOW WHAT--LOL?

Just kidding.

Seems like it was a windows 7 issue in dealing with the files?

Thank God my car doesnt run on windows7--heck my computer doesnt even like it.
I had some kind of trouble with getting access race to do right.
I still have a map that is "greyed"out.
But anyway--i have started.
Jeff--- I know, I know. But Brett is helping me with it all. Its a slow process. My fault not his.
He has the patience of a saint.

Will you be creating your own maps?

Because it is either locked to a different AccessPORT (by serial number or AccessTUNER version) or it is not a correct calibration for your application (by year and model).

Hey!!!!

JK

No I wont be doing my on maps at present. No way. Not yet. Maybe some time in the future. Who knows.
I think the greyed out map may be an access tuner match up problem? He is working on it and trying to edumicate me. Bless his heart.

Denny, so the AP saved your Pettit flash. But can u apply that Pettit file at anytime or only when you unmarrie the AP from your car.

Reason for asking: I have a AP, but I want to use it for logging. I have to marry it 1st to the car, but I don't want to loose my Pettit flash.

only when you un-marry.

it used to be that you could copy and then flash install with the Harrison flash device. I think they may have since added copy protection, so unless you have one of the older flash software kits that may no longer the case. Not sure.
