Which intake do you have ? The maf sensor is increadibly sensitive to subtle changes in your intake . Like misaligned pipes , screens on an angle , obstrructions in the intake etc etc . Suggest you pull intake apart and very carefully put it back together taking care to get everything perfect.

I'm using a Aem, and it has one screen before the maf pipe. It is modified with the last bend cut off like some people have suggested. I really want to get into the tuning and understanding it. So I'm trying like crazy to learn.

Successsfull tuning is as much about understanding how your car works as it is about understanding the what the software does .

I understand how a car works. 8 years automotive classes helped me through that. I don't want to be spoon feed. But I find everything for the Cobb and not much for ME. Like the copy and paste to excel doesnt work in ME for me.. U understand if it's pulling -10 on my long terms I either have a air or fuel issue. Maybe the intake is modified to much or my fuel is flowing to much. But I'm trying to learn how to correct the differences.

My intake is alligned good. Everything right and tight. The only thing I could possibly do is as another screen . Car idles fine. runs fine. no bogging no surging .

You should have 2 screens with the AEM. Some people might recommend removing one of the screens or whatever, but like Brettus said, our MAF is incredibly sensitive and I ran into nothing but problems with just one screen. Most people don't even notice it and claim their car runs "better" without a screen or two, but their importance becomes more apparent when you start tuning

Ok thank you for the help. I'll put my stock maf scale back on and install the screen and relog from there.

This was a brutal learning experience to go through.. Once you place the MAF in its proper position do not move it ever again.

True story . When you look at the way the stock intake is designed .... you can see that Mazda went to great lengths to ensure make it wasn't prone to issues due to less than perfectt installation.

Do you have to disable de DTC codes in both maps (DTC List Enabled #1 and #2) or only one of them?

I guess you can't see any more DTC realted engine trouble even with the Epifan software after disabling DTCs.

Thanks,

Fabrice

Indeed

I recall reading the Dealer Principal memo before the 8's public/media release (2003 I think).
Where it said and listed the development costs on the Renesis's 6 port intake and air filtering system.

MMC spent $millions perfecting this...their highest costs Eva!

I wish I had access to a copy printer then!

I did both maps just to stay consistent. I also disabled the check in the DTC OPT map.

hi guys, got a question.
whenever my car goes from close loop to open loop full throttle, my afr would richen to about 11.2 before shooting up to about desired 12.8...
is it normal for the afr to richen whenever crossing from close to open loop when i full throttle?

this might be a silly question but, how do you guys log knock ?

based on retard timing? or there is actually a "knock" indicator of some kind ?

also, for some reason I can't log with the default logdefs_mps_rx8.xml, if I pick that, nothing works (no value shows on any of the options)

the log only works if I select just logdefs_mps.xml.

To my knowledge there is no knock sensor in the Rx8 or in the ME software. The only ways to sense knock are to monitor HP output on a dyno while doing the power tune, or to monitor EGT (which requires external monitors).

I think Harlan was working on a solution for Knock monitoring.

But if you have money to burn: Plex Knock Monitor v2.0 (new!) - Plex Tuning lolol

Not true... there is a knock sensor but I don't believe it is available on the canbus. I get knock data directly from the ECU with my Select.

yep, there is a knock sensor, although not very accurate, it's better than nothing, and it will be great if we can somehow be able to monitor it.

maybe I should give epifan a call

Why would I wanna know the knock monitor stuff ?

cuz I met some ******* recently, claim himself to be some "Rotary Guru/Expert/whatever"

Customer (friend) tow gotta tow his car into this genius's shop cuz coils are dead, ok big deal, I got my friend a set of brand sparking new coils from Japan, then his genius said its used cuz he see swirls on the bottom of the coil, this dumbass doesn't even know what is new/used, great expert, and said I "lied" and sold my friend a set of used coils as new.

Fine, I gave my friend 2nd set of Brand new coils. it's from the same stock and oh for some reason, friend told him he got it from dealership and ohhhh this genius said this set is new (uhh huh)

then the car starts ran like ****, has CAS CEL, but instead of fixing it , he uses ME to mask the CEL, the light is no longer on, car runs, so it must be "fixed" right ?

then this genius then said the car randomly knocks for no reason, claim that the engine is bad, went ahead to "retard" the timing + adds FUEL to "help" the problem, but the cost is "lower power" ...

I mean, no ****, The ECU can't even get the correct position of the E-shaft, u expect it to be able to get the timing right ? so much for "rotary guru" dip ****.

at the end he claim the car is "fixed" and charge the guy an arm and leg for it ..

This guy didn't even know how the Intake system works (I saw him looking at the FSM intake section for mad long, idiot), and he claim himself to be some sort of "Rotary Expert"

No wonder so many Rx8 blew up. thx to irresponsible ******** like that.

when a good tool like ME falls into the wrong hands ...

After we left the shop, I told the guy what he did (mostly) , fixed his CaS issue (replaced the sensor with a used good one), swap the ECU and use VCM to match it with his PATS to get it back to Stock Flash. Guess what, no misfire. no CEL, nothing. car runs fine and great power(back to stock really)

/end of story

ok, time to bug epifan for this

Correction to my previous post; there's no way to get to it with ME (the only ECU tool I have at my disposal).

What is "my Select?"

I've been thinking of getting 1 lately, I mean sure I can do pretty much anything with stock ECU, but Adaptronic seems interesting as well.

It's a bit expensive tho, but cheaper than other solutions like V-Pro

Thanks to Flameshades in UK I can now log most of the parameters I need on SD card :

which means I can log without the laptop in the car for track days etc.

I'm sure that same scenario is played out all over the world . I just got told by a "genius" here that he is fitting a Microtec LT10 and upgrading his injectors , fitting fuel pump and regulator . He has an NA streetport and has been told he needs all that because of all the extra power he will have. What a joke !

Any luck with Epifan ?

Can you share how? Is this just via a config file for the accessport?
