Just got Stage 1.1

Greetings Guys/Gals,

Just got my Stage 1.1 a few minutes ago from the FedEx guy. The build date is Sept 1, 2004. My question is if this unit will have the coil problems that others have had? If anyone knows, please advise. Thanks!

If you were in group buy 2, you should be safe.

If you need it, here's my writeup: http://tyrannical.org/page-15

you'd have to open your unit up and compare it to the coil fix thread pictures to see if it matches up.

Okay guys, got it installed now. Took it for a test drive. To be honest, I can't tell any difference at all. My idle is fine, actually better than it was previously. I was told by some other people that with my SR Motorsports Intake I would have idling problems, but this doens't seem to be the case.

I do have an intermitant lack of throttle response at 50% throttle at about 1500 RPM. I had this same issue right after I put in my lightweight flywheel, but it went away after about 200 miles of driving. Hopefuly since I had to disconnect the battery the ECU has to relearn a few things.

As far as my lack of anything noticible from the CZ Stage 1.1, will I notice any change once the ECU learns these new maps that the CZ unit is providing? I am not exactly sure on how this really works, but as of right now I feel like I just flushed $600 down the toilet. Hopefuly over the next week or so of driving it'll do something that I can notice.

*** EDIT *** Under load, I have no lack of throttle response, only when i'm in neutral or clutch depressed in gear *** EDIT ***

philodox, if you have the usb cord and software, you can hook it up and watch the real time map trace, which will show you what it's doing and if you're hitting the areas on the map that the cz is adjusting.

the only way for you to really see how it's working is if you buy a canscan. read the url i posted above which explains my first steps towards tuning the cz.

also check out this page:

http://tyrannical.org/cz

the first graph is my stock map, the second is with cz enabled.... it's definately working, but it isn't adjusting the map nearly as much as it could be. I too felt no change with the stock cz map.

The last graph on that page shows where im at right now, and i can really feel the diff. It's just not yet smooth, so the power is a bit jerkey.

Thank you Jason. I do have CANScan, but am having trouble getting the software on my laptop to talk with the ECU. I have to call the software engineer from Harrison R&D (the people I bought the CANScan from) to help me get it to work.. I'll have to take it one step at a time. Hopefuly I'll be able to get it tuned just right in the near future

After talking to Mr. Harrison we still couldn't get it to talk. I tried connecting via hyper terminal to see if any data was getting to my laptop, and it wasn't. I may have a bad RS232 cable, or the USB - Seriel converter may be bad.. will have to troubleshoot more. Currently trying to find an old seriel mouse to see if it works with the USB- Serial converter... time to go through old computer junk.. fun fun fun

Does anyone have any home made maps for CZ 1.1 that they have had good success with? The stock one just doesn't do it for me, and I want to fiddle around with some different maps that give a bit more performance than the stock map in the CZ 1.1... I can't really tune it myself until I can figure out how to make my CANScan talk to my laptop. Thanks in advance.

I can give you mine, but mine is also a work in progress....

BUT, I must stress that my car is different than yours, so if your car settings are a little leaner, you're going to be in the danger zone... so I recommend holding off until you get your canscan to validate if the AFRs are proper

Give me another day and I'll have a map that works for my car. It's pretty flat around the 13.5 AFR. The trouble area is 7500 rpm and above, I am a bit too lean at that point. My ignition map also seems to work pretty well.

Want to give you some word of encouragement. A proper tune map really makes a difference. There is defintely power to be had when things get tuned well.

I had a friend use his CANScan tool about 2 weeks ago on my 8. I only got the fuel/air ratio for idle fully warmed up, but it was 14.7 at 800 RPM idle..

philodox, yeah, under 5k rpm the closed loop takes care of the afr. It's above that, that we're interested in check the first link I posted in this thread - it shows you how to make excel graphs.
