Oh, makes sense then.. So I should buy an aftermarket one? Or just get it tuned and not use knock control. Don’t think they’re easy to get to, probably need to remove the upper manifold..

I have the same issue on my car, with the Adaptronic knock control. I have changed the settings (Low freq. 3200 - High freq. 3700 HZ), 4 to 45 ATDC, and replaced 3 OEM sensors, with no luck. I've ended up disabling it...

Knock limited tuning in a rotary engine is destined to fail.

Piston engine can tolerate a surprisingly large amount knock before they fail.

Rotary Engines fail with pretty much ANY knock at load....

Add to the fact that most knock sensors are designed for frequencies that rotaries don't tend to see....

Most anyone that I know disables the knock sensor or doesn't use it for rotary applications

I meant to reply to this the other day. I had the same issue when I first started with the Adaptronic. Not the fault of the ECU. I also suspect I had false knock readings that were retarding timing with the stock ECU based on ignition logs. I agree with Dan and the others that it's flawed on a rotary. I disabled knock control and haven't looked back. It may feel uncomfortable to turn it off but relying on it provides a false sense of security and robs power when false detections retard your timing.

I’ll just turn it off then and never look at it again, thanks!

Same here. I actually chipped an apex seal with closed loop knock control on. The ecu actually did exactly what it was supposed to do and pulled timing (pulled like 10 degrees within milliseconds). However, it was a few millisecond too late. I am pretty sure that the failing internal 4 bar MAP sensor was reading 5 psi lower than actual (likely running 25 psi with only water/meth and 93)

I have since gotten rid of closed loop knock control and just review all my logs.

Remember the knock sensor picks up background noise and you need to set that level in adaptronics. just set them all to 0 and do a couple pulls with conservative timing. Then add about 10 points to each of the max knock level observed and make that your zero point in the table. That way your knock levels should always read 0 in your logs unless you likely are having real knock counts.

The internal map sensor is highly unreliable. Within a few hours of having the Adaptronic working, the map sensor failed.
I use an external map sensor now, something I can recommend to anyone running an Adaptronic modular ecu. Haven’t had an issue since.

But if knock is detected, it’s most likely already too late. Like in your case. Then why use knock control in the first place?

I’ll be using this ecu in my Rx8 REW swap soon. I won’t be tuning it and the guy tuning it goes by the name Nelson. He does a lot of people’s cars. Will provide feedback when it’s up and running

Which external MAP sensor did you go with?

I use a KMS 0-300kPa map sensor.

a standard GM 3-bar map sensor is likely all you need, but there are higher depending on whether you intend to run more than 25 psig boost

So I'm currently learning Eugene, possibly a really dumb question I cannot find an answer to.

The ribbon tabs have different colored text for certain tabs. Are the status colors, to represent something?

Hmmm, I've never noticed the colors before. Just opened up my Eugene and notice mine are also colored now too but different tabs and different colors than yours shows lol.

Based on this my initial thoughts are that the colors mean nothing.

"Changed closed loop fuel condition to Load1 instead of IMAP"
Interesting ...is that to replicate the way Mazda does closed loop ?

kind of doubt it since it’s still MAP based and not MAF ...

there is a more detailed link for the most recent Eugene update release that goes with it

https://s3.amazonaws.com//adaptronic...ASE_NOTES.html

Modular:
  • Added two new EUDM RX8 ABS modes.
  • Added TPS and MGP as load types for leanout protection table.
  • Fixed Internal Logging window crash
  • New FW 1.085
so probably specific to those two load types for that purpose, so I said it was MAP based but there are actually several different modes that can be used in various combination, but MAF isn’t offered.

keep hoping for the day when you get onboard, have to believe there’s some potential performance gains that can’t be realized on the factory pcm regardless of which software solution is being used.

I can appreciate your reluctance to move from MAF to MAP tuning though, but don’t be sceered ... it’s not that much different.

Hey guys just curious, I have never been able to calibrate my wheel speed to be correct. It looks like my wheel speed value for the drop down needs to be a negative value. But that can't go below 0. I am using the default setup from the adaptronic base map. Anyone else have this issue?

When you ever get the chance can you do a snip-it if your Eugene page for the wheel speed sensor? Maybe something is wrong with mine but not sure.

Just a heads up to anyone experiencing weird issues with their ecu, it seems the maps can get corruped over time. I was getting high idle, loss of closed loop idle, closed loop fuel was causing lean stalls and misfires, and injector duty on 2nd and 3rd stages were dropping under boost for no reason. I finally installed base map and made all changes manually and everything back to normal.

Has anyone wired a Davies electric water pump to be controlled directly by the adaptronic? Or do we need the controller kit from Davies as well?

so I heard through the grapeline that when the last set of Modular ecu’s that recently arrived (or are inbound still?) are sold, that’s going to the end of them, forever … and there supposedly aren’t that many available.

Going to be a big cost change for the known alternatives. I had a Haltech Elite ecu quoted with jumper harness to mate with the OE engine harness and it’s about $3000 more than the Adaptronic Modular ecu to get the same functionality.
