question do i have to change my plugs with my coils and wires ... reason being i just got a sweet deal on coils and wires but cant spend money on plugs yet so should i just wait and put em in all together? the coils and wires have about 10k on em in oppose to my 30k

 

nope, you don't HAVE to. I usually recommend people do it all at once since you're already workign in that area but if you don't mind doing a little work you can do them on seperate ocassions.

Just did my coils tonight. Is it common to have the white spots under them? Out of 4 coils 3 had the white spot. One being quite big. But oh my did it make a difference. No more sluggish take offs. Just need to clean the MAF and TB tomorrow and hope to get the bitch to idle better.

 

yes its normal, you can only test them under load. I say just replace it every 30K to be safe.

 

probably a silly question but what order are the coils in t1t2 etc ...

I would do both coils and plugs, or in my case, the wires too. When I finished last night, I took a good look at my old plugs, man were they rusty.

 

Hi does anyone know if there is a sequencing number to the coils? my CEL light came on and had it checked, and the meter says something like 'No.4 Ignition Coil Failure'...so which is no.4? the one nearest to the windscreen? yes I know I should change all 4 but theres only one available now, so just wanna replace it first. Anyone can help with the ordering number??

i did this worked great i took it on the road and was alright then i noticed it almost died at an idle and was idling a little lower then normal. i havnt driven it more then a mile after the change so maybe it needs to get used to it because the previous ones had 70,000 miles on them

Im sorry guys, but forgive my lack of knowledge, what are the coils? and what do they do?

Or to more properly elaborate, the coils are mini-transformers that increase the battery's 12V to a very high voltage that is then conveyed to the sparkplugs via the 'plug cables (that's why the cables have very thick conducters compared to the coil input side). The gap between the sparkplug's annode and cathode (base and tip) provides for an electrical arc which forms the spark that ignites the gasoline vapor.

But yeah, the coils basically send the spark to the 'plugs.
