Your's and Dozer's Reader's Digest responses would have I'm sure been adequate, but snce this is already an excellent DIY by Dozer, and moreso because I appreciate g0rdon's, or anyone's, willingness to learn, I figured I'd give him a wee bit more.

Just for those who want to know "which" original Mazda factory ignition coils they have in their RX-8...

These dates are date of Build/Production...

#N3H1-18-100 were used from Start (2003) of the RX-8 up to February's end 2006.
#N3H1-18-100A were used from March 1st, 2006 Build Date to November 30th, 2007.
#N3H1-18-100B were used from December 1st, 2007 ONWARDS... (including Series II RX-8's)

The B Coils are the latest and is sold to fit all RX-8's...

Will most vendors sell the "B" coils? If not, I should be searching around for a vendor that does so that I get the latest and greatest, right?

I just changed out my coils, wires, and plugs yesterday and it was a knuckle beating job but, can be done with patience. I had more problems taking off the RB intake than the coils themselves but those tiny screws are easy to drop and get caught by the bottom pan that I had to unbolt to find the little thing. Thanks for the DIY.

On my car it was not that. From the front of the car going to the back, the first coil was L1, second was T1, third was L2 and last was T2. (hope i remembered that right) pretty sure that is what it was. I only had one coil to have a white spot on it and the other 3 didnt. My car was running fairly well at the time and just had all the fluids changed in it Monday for the second time since I bought the car new. Every 30k miles, I have everything changed. so far running like a champ.

First: Seems that to post here, I must have a picture of a girls *** as an avatar. I'll get to work on that...

But, must I get OEM Ignition Coils from a Mazda parts shop? Or can I call Advanced Auto Parts and get the coils they have in stock?

So how long does this normally take? Any tips on removing the air box?

i say about a good 15 minutes just to replace the coils...

the airbox really isnt that big big of a problem, just remove the MAF, unscrew the the clamp, loosen it up and push/pull right out

grab it by the two little tabs at the top of the airbox that attach to the engine cover and pull has hard as you can

I think you mean in one motion to push the stock airbox to the rear to compress the flex tubing and then pull up. The first time is a beatch, but thereafter much easier.

Most Mazda Dealers in the US would be selling the Latest Coils for ALL RX-8's...

This is the Part Number...they are around the $30 mark EACH..

Are these coils from O'Rielly sufficient?...or should I just go to my dealer...or doesn't it matter? Autozone's website charges 88.99 EACH and yes...I called to confirm. Why the hell are theirs almost 3x more?

UPDATE: I called the 2 dealers nearest to where I work today and one wanted 87.99 EACH and the other wanted 54.99 EACH. WTF!?

look in the DIY index thread, there's one.
Basically you remove the front driver wheel and you use a spark plug box with a ratchet and extensions.
