TeamRX8, why don't you try the K&N Typhoon Ver. 2? I think it would work pretty good if its sealed.
I'm not sure, but I think the intake pipe on the K&N is plastic, which would be the only problem I have with it.

One addition please, we will pay for the shipping of your intake to another customer for testing. Alternatively, we would like a local car as well for this. Perhaps we can use the existing MAF housing (which we have in stock) if it turns out to be a install procedural change.

"Unfortunately, each screen costs about 1 HP at high RPM, so using fewer screens is an advantage. In our dyno testing at "idle", we found that the MAF sensor voltage output from the stock air box (two screens) and the Racing Beat REVi Intake (1 screen) both have about .005 volt "scatter" – natural fluctuations with time. By contrast, another popular aftermarket intake kit (with no screens) has roughly .050 volt scatter – 10 times as much! – which causes idle instability and possible engine stalling."

I am also in the process of putting the stock intake back and will be selling the K&N.
Having read the information further on the original Simota intakes installed, I suspect we can go ahead and ship out the intakes to everyone with the caveat that they will use the information provided on that link: ( https://www.rx8club.com/far-east-asia-38/simota-cf-aero-form-intake-here-68919/ ).
We are keeping close tabs and since we have many intakes in stock, we can ship them as soon as Thursday if everything works out well.

I'm working on something that should be equivalent of the screens yet won't inhibit flow. Someone was generous enough to donate some prototype MAF tubes from the defunct RP intake project, which I plan to try with an Apexi filter and custom shield/box.
Well the one you are talking about Umnitza was quite modified. He made a custom MAF Screen and switched out the Simota Filter with a Apexi Filter, so I don't know how valid it would be to use that info.
You guys, umnitza, should just buy some HF mesh, similar to the stock intakes, and add them to the Simota Intake.

wow this thread has blown up in the past week that sux you all are havin these problems i have not had one problem with this intake and its been on since octoberish. strange...
I never had mine.I waited like 3 weeks and got tired of waiting so I asked them for a refund wich they gave me imidiatly, so they do have good costumer service.most companies would have told me that, I had to wait for the intake and had gotten stuck with the intake..

LOL, this thread is the shiznits ....
Turns out Apexi only goes up to an 80mm inlet diameter, the RX-8 tubes I have are 3.5" (89mm) so I decided to go with the new AEM Dry-Flo filter instead and chose the long 9" version over the 5" shorty. This filter wasn't out for the linked filter test, it should be at least as good as the Apexi with regard to cleaning. Only $44 from Summit Racing too.
Also decided to completely box in the filter housing and will make a single top plate that spans the entire width of what was the OE battery and filter housing. The top cover will even hide the radiator burp tank with a cutout for the radiator cap to protrude through and will align completely with the OE engine cover. If I anodize if black it should end up blending in with the other covers and looking quite slick.

I'd have to make it different since most people will keep the OE battery and position, and there's no guarantee it won't be a flop at this point either ...
uhhh ok well i took off the stock intake. unbolted lil sensor plug on back. than put on new intake but i left ALL vacuum lines connected, i left everything plugged in. its pretty impossible to screw up. i did leave in the intake tray though cause w/o it i could the the radiator. sorry i can't explain if i get some time this weekend i will pull apart and do a how to install w/ pics

ok... there was not an "install issue" on my part... this is not the first car that i have worked on. i kinda take offense to that (umnitza)... there is a reason that i have not responded... NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. i have been out of town since friday morning and i am not in my 8. i did put approx. 90 miles on the car before leaving town. i have had no issues, as of yet. so i am going to go ahead and assume that by placing the mesh screen in the simota MAF housing, corrects the problem.
the other reason that i have not responded is because everyone that had one on order had cancelled... also, i am the one doing the "leg work", since i am the only one with the "new" simota, i wanted to make sure that nothing was wrong...
so... before, or i should say, since, my credibility is in question, as far as the install goes, then you guys are on your own with this... since it has been hinted that i don't know what i'm doing, then umnitza can figure this out on there own.........
i will not be posting on this thread again, unless there is a problem...
so... if you order one, it is at your own risk..............
thank you and that is all i have to say about that!

First and foremost Scott's ability to install this was never in question.
The install issue is whether certain parts from the existing intake are required or not.
Clearly we've not just sold 1 intake - over 20 so far actually - and clearly this intake was sold even PRIOR to us selling it and had no issues.
Ideally, it's good to isolate what the problem is or isn't, so far it appears - based on posts that we can go ahead and ship out the remaining intakes.
Here's what we will be proactively doing:
1) Sending ALL RX8 intakes today.
2) ALL upgraded parts are in stock, those will be included in the box for FREE
3) Please install your mesh screens from your stock setup.
All intakes will have been shipped by tomorrow at the latest, most of you that requested priority shipping will receive it, some of you that didn't, we'll try to expedite as best we can.
Scott, easy does it.

I don't know why you're getting upset. All they did is ask a question. You were not mentioned and nothing of the sort was even implied. You're having issues, somebody else isn't, so it's only proper that they try to figure out what's going on ...
