I was planning to use an RB air inlet with a custom plate that seals the front of the CF air box to it, pulled the factory air box insulator out ....

I really didn't understand what you said TeamRX8. Are you saying that you are going to sort of make a hybrid RB/Simota intake which would make the Simota intake a Sealed air box intake?

If that is so, can you elaborate on what you are exactly going to do?

Thanks

ok... intake arrived around 1:30 pm my time (central). i had already taken the stocker out, so all i had to do was put the simota in. i filled up with gas this morning, so that i had a full tank to thrash my 8! installed the simota and made sure everything was aligned and tight. fired up the 8 and just listened to her purr for a minute before taking off. i took the long way out to the country roads to let my baby warm up. once that needle was front and center, i let her rip! 1st and second gears pull harder than i've ever felt. the only other addition to my 8 is the newest mazdaspeed exhaust and this intake. i drove like a bat outta hell down those nice and flat country roads, hitting about 120mph at one point. drove through town, stop and go traffic, then took her out on the interstate to see how it did at cruise. PERFECTION! the sound of this intake and exhaust.... ****..... who needs a radio! NO CEL, yet! i drove around 25-30 miles, so i'll drive at least a tank and let you know for sure... the last one threw a CEL after about 65-75 miles driven. if i'm not mistaken, i actually think that this new design pulls harder through 1-3 gears. with the traction control ON, i could easily manage to break the tires free in 2nd gear!

overall... so far... i am 100% satisfied with the new design! i will let you know for sure by the end of the week, for i am sure that i will need to fill up again...

congrats on this one! like i said, one word, PERFECTION!

I'm a bit cautious of getting this new simota intake because when I took out the older simota intake and reinstalled the stock intake, one of the screws on the maf did not seem to want to tighten up right (it never really stopped tightening, seems a bit stripped). I'm not sure if I want to risk stripping the maf sensor screw holes and having to buy a whole new maf sensor.

Ah decisions decisions...
