Turbo'd Auto?!?!

I was looking at a Greddy Kit for my automatic 04' but it says for Manual only? Is there a way to install it? Or is there any other kits that have successfully been installed on an auto?
If anyone knows anything about this please help me out.

Thanks.

i did hear once about an auto that was tubo'd. i think scott said he tuned one.

mainly i think the greddy should be able to be used you just have to change one thing in the ems.

if you do want to go FI on your auto (like i do) i would wait a while untill the superchargers come out. there have been some really nice gains to be seen.

If you're going FI and it's not for the gains (which should be much better with a supercharger), and just for the BOV sound.....

It's basically a spinning fan that blows more air into the engine than the engine would otherwise be able to suck in (You get positive pressure instead of a vacuum). Which allows you to then inject more fuel and be able to create more power without increasing engine displacement.

Wow. Now that's comedy gold. I hope you're just joking.

Turbos are great, ESPECIALLY on a rotary.

He asked about the GReddy kit. Not exactly overwhelming numbers. Maybe if there were a better turbo kit out yet...but there isn't. I'm not talking about turbos in general.

FI is short for FYI

Dotson408, Some AT owners on here are Turboed and SuperCharged if your going to SS9 you'll see them. For us that cant make it I'll post video asap.

You can Turbo anything! Now that dont mean you're going to get tons of hp but if you get your 8 tuned at a safe mode you can obtain a fun daily driver and not just have dead weight under your hood thats there just for show.

If you plan on Turboing your 8 look into shops that are in your neck of the woods or in the next town over. IE: I would have to drive to SD in Calie to have my 8 tuned. Shops in Vegas suck *****.

For a AT 8 I would hold off on a Turbo and get a SC. I feel our AT cars can get more tourq out of that kind of set up. I cant recall but on here someones SC'ed AT 8 ran 14 or 13's in the 1/4 @ 100. Thats not set in stone but I cant recall where I read that on here.
Search! lol

Haha, nobody here knows about rotarys I would prolly be an 8hour trip from Logan,WV to Louisville or Lexington, KY to get it tuned lol...
I was wonderings just because it has a smaller engine than a MT factory, could I still switch trannys and have someone reprogram everything?
or could I get a Engine and MT and would everything bolt up right where my auto shiftknob is?
I am really wanting to hook it up but I dont wanna buy a MT and put all the bodywork mine has into another one...

MT swap? Wouldnt' be worth it financially...most people would tell you to just trade for a MT.

It doesn't look like you've read up on this car too much since you're saying things like the AT engine is "smaller". I'm not holding this against you - everyone has to start somewhere. If you are concerned with getting a faster car, either trade for a MT rx-8, or keep your AT and get a twin-screw S/C. I suggest you spend some time reading the "Major Horsepower Upgrades" forum and the AT-Specific Performance mods section.

Converting your auto to MT is going to be too cost probative, you're better off trading in your car and buying a MT directly.

Ok, Ive looked around and I have one question could I turbo my AT 8 if I bought bigger injectors, a bigger radiator, oil cooler, and bought a Greddy Ultimate Management System and have it run fine without running it at really low boost? I dont wanna pay 3grand and have to tune it down because it is too much load on it.

Here's a very old thread about the Greddy kit on an auto: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-specific-performance-mods-97/greddy-turbo-working-auto-rx8-52403/

Dotson408, I don't understand your confusion. As was mentioned, you can turbo or supercharger the RX-8 Autos and get very good gains. A turbo'd RX-8 Auto, depending on the kit and HP gains, can be faster than a stock RX-8 MT.

My understanding is that you will not get big HP gains from the Greddy Turbo. It was an early low HP kit with a small turbo.

Right now, it seems Mazsport's New Turbo Kits look really good ( https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/new-turbo-kit-88323/ ). It also appears that he will have an upgrade kit for the Greddy Turbos kit too.

There are other turbo kits now and a number of Supercharger kits coming out that will be displayed at SS9. You should check the sticky- Turbochargers/superchargers compillation ( https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/turbochargers-superchargers-compilation-63023/ )

I have an Auto too. I would suggest that you get the 2nd oil cooler and Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooler to start with.

The rest of the stuff would depend on the kit that you choose. Its better if you decide on the kit that you want first and then talk to the people that will install it, in order to find out all of the parts you will need.
