Okay here are the first pics. You'll notice some shifters on the floor with the trash, these ones failed Richard's Quality Control checks......
The tab you see on the shaft is the reverse lockout tab.
Richard informs me that the blue **** is not part of the shifter assy. He said if I saw the top of it, I'd want it, so he didn't show me 'cos he's not gonna make it. Damn, he knows I want a ball ****, and he shows me one I can't have in a colour that would suit my Winning Blue RX-8!!!! Sure know how to hurt a guy, Richard.....
Enjoy the pics...
Regards, Gomez.

Magix, don't ask when they'll be ready.....they'll be ready when they're ready. Hopefully not long now, the first few have been sent to RX-8 owners and are undergoing testing. If everything works out alright, Richard will release them for sale. Be patient, all good things come to those that wait!

5 are coming to Oz, exclusive to Hymee. Would have been 10 if those others were not less than 100% perfect.
#1 = Gomez, anyone else PM me.
Cheers,
Hymee.

The first one is installed and running around. There were some adjustments that had to be made as we antisapated the tolorances in the wrong direction. We will loosen up the plastic parts for the next one. We will run a new batch of pivot sockets this week. We await feed back from the car owner. I can say that it sure feels more direct, but not having driven alot of miles in one I will wait for the owner.
I need to send one more off as soon as it is modified to the new spec. You know who you are so it is in the works.
Sorry I can't deliver for Christmas but maybe New Years. Like week one of 2005.
BTW the swap is very simple. There is one bolt, the front right that is hard to get to. I'm thinking on that one to make it easier. When all is said and done it should be a 30 to 45 min job.

Woot woot! Great news Richard, you rock with your **** out....
Well, after going thru the posts the numbers look like this. Interest for your shifter has been shown by:
and me, of course .
Some of the above have qualified their interest depending on final price, but all in all, the response has been very positive. I'm sure these numbers will swell as soon as the first few owners provide feedback on the change.
Back to the lathe, Richard..... :p

I'm driving the prototype!!!
Yep, I went over to RP's shop today and we did final fitment on the short shifter.
Oh, you want to know what it's like?
Well, after 60 miles of LA Freeway traffic (a lot of it slow and stop) I got a chance to do a lot of shifting. Here's what i think.
It's a shorter throw, obviously. 1-2 is 3-1/8" movement at the top of the shift ****. It's the same for 3-4 and 5-6. Measure your stock one (which is pretty short to begin with) to see how much shorter this is and post it here, please.
Yes, with a little practice you can shift with just a wrist flick!
The shaft is straight rather than bent to the passenger side as the stock one is. Seems to work every bit as well, and just seems "right" not to be bent.
But I think the best feature is that it feels MUCH more solid!!!
Gear changes are "snick-snick" rather than "clunk-clunk." You feel really connected to the transmission.
And, yes, the reverse lockout still functions the same.
Bottom line: I like it ... a lot! And mine isn't even finished as smoothly as the final products will be!
