I'd venture to guess a paper filter would be ruined pretty quickly, and a K&N style would start to loose its oil during wet conditions.
From the shape of the duct, it looks pretty unlikely that you'll suck up much of anything far enough to do any damage. maybe if you put this duct in front of an FI system, but even then it souns like the boost limits on the Renesis are low enough that you probably won't have to worry.

I just ordered mine also after reading the air duct thread. Someone posted the link to rx8store and couldn't resist the price so I pulled the card out. I'm putting it onto a stock box with green filter so I hope I can feel the difference. I almost purchased the odula air duct, but got it priced at like over 300 shipped from japan so this is a deal! I can't wait I can't wait

I can see why this may be beneficial -- provided the unit is truely a true ram air intake.. however, one forum member, MSP*** says, "when you remove the vfad the stock opening is about 5 inches from the opening in the sheet metal and the ram air duct only goes flush with the sheetmetal you need the revi to extend through the opening to connect to the duct. So yes it is partially true that it works with the stock box but there is no ram air effect or benefit"

If this is true, will it have any benefit to my HKS racing suction unit?

I called RB today and they said that it would be compatible, but if it is just flushing the air around the stock box, what's the benefit?

NOGUNI, can you tell me your impressions on it since you have a stock intake?

thanks

I notice that right now, my intake temp is about 8-10 degrees hotter than my ambient temp dash gauge by reading the sCANalyser. When I get the ram duc installed, I'll see what it drops to.

Is there anyway to further increase the airflow to the RB Ram Air unit? I was thinking of purchasing the MS front bumper and removing the undertray. I heard from a tuner that removing the undertray increases the amount of air available to the intake quite significantly....

Sure I'll give you my thoughts with it hooked up tothe stock box once I get it. After reading that there is no extension arm to the stock intake from the duct, I'm wondering if I can cut it off the stock and finish the seal.

Hope this sucker ships soon!!!!!

DO NOT remove the undertray, it is needed to shove the air onto the radiator for COOLING YOUR ENGINE! this is very vital!!! removing the undertray may very well cause major decrease in cooling capacity of the radiator!

Thankx for the comments! Supposedly he had done this to one of his RX8's and thought it was a good idea.. I really didnt know what to make of it since the radiator is located in that vicinity...

Thankx!

What intake do you have right now? If it's an aftermarket intake, do you know what those temps were with the stock unit?

It will work fine with the stock box. The stock box connects to the opening in the sheet metal.
The opening is fitted with a rubber seal. On the other side the Ram tube fits tightly. The cold air goes directly into the stock box /Revi box/K&N box.

For the HKS open air filter on a stick, the cold air goes through the duct directly on to the filter.

Hey Razz.. Did you purchase this yet? I am curious to hear your comments on this as you did a nice write up when you purchased your REV-I unit. I hope you do the same for this...

Please do your research first.

The Revi 8 Intake provides:
REVi Intake Adds An Average 1.95 HP Over The Stock System - 2000-8900 RPM Range

Peak RPM Gains Over Stock - 3.5 HP @ 8300 RPM

Maximum Power Gain Over Stock - 5.8 HP @ 8900 RPM

The Ram tube provides around an extra 2 HP.

Now that's 7.8 Total HP

No the air comes up from the bottom of the car. Get underneath your car sometime. You will see the Radiator is slanted towards the front of the car.

The RAM Air Duct fits between the bumper and the steel wall. :p

I really wish RB hadn't called this thing a "ram air" duct. Takes alot of credibility out of this product for me.

As far as MPG goes..............................

Each car is different. More importantly EACH driver is different.

All I can say is I have gotten way better gas milage on the HWY. Over all I have achieved better gas milage.

The problem is the car is too fun to drive . It is very hard to test.
On straight Hwy runs I have had increases. On combination I have had increases.

I don't want to stick my neck out :o . I would say that it is possible to get .5MPG more. You wouldn't believe me if I told you what increase I got once over a hwy cruise. So lets just stick with and hope for somewhere around .5mpg with a realistic .25MPg for the avearage consumer.

If you want me to post my Peak gains like K&N at 9.5HP. Then would you believe 1.38MPG :D

Because I like spirted driving I'm not looking for MPG but it's there. .. I'd be happy if I can drive the same way and get .125 to .5MPG each fill up.

I don't expect an increase and neither shoud you for the RAM AIR DUCT.
But when you buy it and you get a little more MPG it proves out to be a good return on investment.

Ok, ok, so I went up the Mountain and back down, ran 3 1/4 mile drags in 102 degrees, then drove relatively fast without crusie control and achieved 18.43 MPG over a 160 mile trip. I was impressed... was it better than normal? who knows.. but it sure felt like it. It's hard for me to get that type of milage. It's all MAZDA's fault for making the RX 8 too fun to drive.

Zoom Zoom :D
