Thanks
mmm Did I feel a difference mmmm

Well too tell you the truth no difference.
That is no more difference then when I first installed the RB Ram Air CAI ... BUT... I've only taken it for a short cruise today. I got up to about 120 km/h about 75 mph. You see it's winter where I live right now and I don't generally drive my 8 in the winter season. I don't have snow tires on it either so I'll have to wait till the next dry cold sunny day with snow free roads before I can say if I notice any difference.

Not bad.

I utilized duct tape for what its first use ever was... Sealing ducts.

Laugh at those that say they couldn't use Duct tape on their car.

It isn't seen since it is on the inside of the duct just like the silicone and it works.

Looks pretty much like mine, but I'm suprised that the silicone cost you $18 a tube. You can buy everything at walmart over here, where I bought the silicone it was about $5 a tube.

I also used wood shims to get the alignment perfect.

But the bandages I used were different than the ones that you used, mine were not a gauze but rather just a solid non-strechy cotton wrap.

Excellent pics.

What a bitch of a job! I started by completely disassembling the Ram Air Intake and Revi to try and get the best alignment possible. I suppose you normally wouldn't have to do this as per your directions but I figured .... in for a dime in for a dollar.

Summary:
1) Achieved a better connection between the RamAir CAI and the Revi. The connection still had a gap but was much better then my first installation. I also applied some Blue Silicon to the foam gasket to help it stay in place. This seemed to work nicely. I also used a small 4 inch piece of softwood to hold the bumper out a bit while I made adjustments to the Ram Air CAI.
2) Appling the Silicon as per your directions ---> I failed terribly. I tried 4 times to get those cotton bandages to stick correctly and all I did was make a terrible mess! SIDENOTE: The silicon is relatively easy to clean up if you don't wait too long. It's handy to have some Brake Cleaner or 70% Alcohol around for this too. So what I did was apply some silicon directly to the area I wanted the cotton bandage by hand. Then I applied the cotton strips. This seemed to work better for me.
3) After waiting and applying the second coat I was pleased with the seal however it doesn't look that pretty. Good thing no one can see it!

Conclusion:
1) I'm happy with the seal not so happy with the look of it but like I said who is going to see it.
2) I'm sure next time I'll be able to do it in half the time and 2x better.
3) I do notice a small sound difference. Slightly reduced noise level and a deeper tone.
4) I'm disappointed that I had to do this in the first place. When I purchased the Ram Air CAI and the Revi (I did this at the same time) I was totally under the impression that they would be connected some how. As per this picture on their web page http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm NOTE:See pic below.
5) Would I do this again? Yes until I find a solution that is better. IE like a proper hose fitting. I thought I had found something at a local store however it was a 60 dollar item that needed to be ordered in and if it didn't fit to bad for me I owned it. So for a 300 ml 18 dollar tube of Blue Silicon and 5 dollars of medical supplies and a 30 cent popsicle this method is a nice alternative. Besides worse case scenerio (wcs hehehe) I can take it all a part again and with a little elbow grease and a few beers clean out all the silicon and I'm back to scratch again. No harm no foul.
6) My only worry? If I need to take the car into the dealer and they need to remove the Revi. Boy are they in for a surprise!

All in all .... I'm happy. Thanks everyone and Cheers Staticlag

MMmmmm I was wondering if you used a solid type cotton wrap. I did see something like that when I was out. I also came across a thick gauze wrap with a sticky side to it. I was wondering if that would work too.
MMMmmmm I hope my gauze holds up for me. Yesterday was a nice day and I was able to go for a 150 km cruise. Maybe I'll take 30 minutes out of my day and check out how things are holding up in there.......

Ok quick update I just ran out to the garage and took the Revi Air Filter out to see how things looked.
After 150 kms the seal looks good. It looks like that type of gauze will work. Atleast for now.
:D

On a sidenote I couldn't believe all the sand that I had collected in only 150 km!

dmp, I forgot to post back when I had the problem with the idle it was because of a vacuum leak. That is why it worked for me to reinstall the vfad controller with the vacuum hoses.

I had a bad cap for the vacuum hose that is taken off with the removal of the vfad and such. Put a new cap on and it fixed the idle problem.

Since I would also like to tackle this issue (the lack of connection or proper seal/insulation between the REVi and the Ramair duct), I wanted to ask you people what you have done to seal them ? Anyone tried to use a coupler hose ? I really don't like to use silicone or even wide duct tape or cool tape (aluminum tape)..

RB duct question

hey guys sorry to revive an old thread, but I have been searching an answer to my question for the last few hours and havent found much useful info. So if any of you wouldnt mind answering my questions for me that would be great. My first question is: I am thinking about getting the RB air duct for my ride, but I am a bit concerned at how much crap the duct may pick up while driving. Have any owners experienced trouble with too much crud or even when attempting to clean their filters? any opinions on whether I should be concerned with this or not? My second question is somewhat off topic, but still relates: I have already taken out the vfad, which is the first step if i wanted to get the rb duct right? well anyways I wasnt too sure whether to leave the foam that goes underneath on or off? does it matter?

well if you guys could please answer any my questions for me that would be awesome!! again sorry for reviving this old thread.....

by the way I also have the PRM intake on my car...just came out about two months ago and I have the second one in the US....sounds badass!!! many compliments and very many turned heads!!!

dont' worry about it sucking up too much crud, I've had my RB intake / duct for over 3 years and cleaning it is simple. I find that it ends up with some sand / dirt in the airbox but nothing excessive. A simple moist towel is all you need to clean the inside of the airbox. I'm sure your intake will be perfectly fine.

Yepper. the filter will stop everything.
Anything that does get in there stays in the bax and can be removed easily.

Check this out.

thanks for your opinions guys i appreciate your input, now i may actually go ahead with the duct as it seems that everyone likes what it does. One more question tho, how much water does it pick up when raining? I have heard that the rotary is not very prone to hydrolock, so maybe rain wouldnt even be a problem at all what you guys think?
