Spoke to Racing Beat. They said the quoted HP gains were with everything else stock. They did not know how other mods such as CAI, catless mid-pipe and performance catback would affect the HP gain. I would assume that there would be some synergy, no?

I also asked about impact on torque and didn't have any info on that.

So that means they tested their header with the 2 middle runners..with everything else stock. Which leads back to.. They probably saw very small gains with the 2 middle runners over their current design..but if I had a totally different exhaust setup, then I may even see more. Sure it's not $700 extra for only 1-2 HP now, are we?

Um No. You are making a false connection. Just because they are quoting horsepower gains with the stock exhaust in place does not mean they tested their designs only with the stock exhaust in place. If you read their testing procedures they talk about testing with a straight pipe off the manifold to compare for header development.

^ I am just quoting what they told me over the phone. To be even more specific, I asked whether being catless would increase the HP gain and he said, they only dyno with everything else being stock.

Racing Beat to added a blocking plate for the secondary air pump injection port, for those who track their car and want to shed pounds by dumping components not needed for track use. It is $10 I believe.

I have the latest RP supercat which I think is a bit quieter. I'll have to test it out and see how it sounds.
I just am trying to avoid a midpipe as the police in CA are ***** about stuff like that.

Would removing the emision equipment like the air pump cause CEL or cause other problem down the road?

It will throw a CEL unless you have something like an accessport.

Bumpity bump bump.

I just ordered an RB header last week... should be arriving soon.

I've got a few dyno runs set up to really call out RB on this header.

First run (baseline): AEM CAI + TurboXS Catback (with stock cat/mid-pipe)
Second: Above + RB Header
Third: 1st + 2nd + Catless Dual Resonated Mid-pipe

We'll see what this sucker will do. But hey, if this header at least helps me to hear more of the rotary-goodness then I'll be happy but power gains wouldn't be bad either.

Anyone have sound clips? I'll be posting some before/after/after clips for some good documentation of these mods.

Dammit just checked with GST in Hayward they're not going to be able to do my pulls because they've had problems in the past strapping down RX8s to their dyno

Gotta find another place.

That'll only take about a hundred tanks of gas

I'm sure I'll find another place. I want to get the baseline done next Thursday and I have probably 60 choices within 50 miles so I"m sure I'll figure something out.

Whatever happened to that block off plate that would come with it and all?

what are you guys looking to see... I have dynoed the car with the header and saw exactly what rb said. The block off plate can easily be fabricated if they don't provide one.

Well got the header in (complete pain in the ***) and got the mid-pipe fabricated... but I need to go back and get a biiiiiig resonator installed because it is WAY too raspy above 3000RPM.

Idle is great, it's true you can definitely hear more of the rotary goodness and it does kinda somewhat resemble a streetport (at least my setup does) as someone else stated. I can't speak for the sound over 3000... I think it sounds effing terrible because it's so raspy. But surprisingly it isn't that loud. Butt dyno feels noticeable improvement over just the mid-pipe between 4000-7000. I doubt I'll get it dyno'ed though... I'm going to the strip on the 24th so I'll just see what it runs... no point in dynoing now I'll just wait till I go FI.

Pics and vids Monday night after the resonator install.

Bump for an update.

Anyone dyno'd their car before and after adding the RB header?
