How much is the header anyways? I don't want to go to RB's site, it doesn't really work for me. Plus when it does, it takes AGES to change a page.

Check out www.Mazdatrix.com their site should work for you. It's $339 plus shipping.

It looks like a high quality piece, but I don't like that the wide band only sees output from a single runner.

I have this header on my car since June this year & I absolutely love it. The torque band is wider, the power delivery is smoothier, and the sound is deeper & throatier. The installation took a little time, but it is definitely worth it.

My Bad. Yep $495. I must have been browsing around drooling over the midpipe too.

I never really updated here...

So my best run was a 14.9 @ 92 when I ran... horrible launches are what I blame combined with heavy wheels and skinny tires. I've since switched from 25lbs. 18x9.5 to a 16.5lbs 17x9 and from a 225/45R18 to a 245/45R17 so hopefully we'll see some improvement next time I go.

I'll have a Cobb AP to add to my arsenal at that time hopefully so we'll see... I might do a run before that so it will be interesting to see the changes in times.

trap speed is really what shows horsepower.

so lets see the difference.

It shows just part of the power curve actually

Yes but there are too many variables in the middle. Like the take-off, the clutch slippage etc. Doing a straight line often takes you out of an rpm range you would use while running\going out of a turn imho.

Putting the car on a rolling road will be fairly more accurate and provide with a tangible graph while trap speed will probably show driver skills\fails as well

Averaging several runs takes care of the iminor nconsistencies. If you get a power increase it will be seen by the speed (not time) of several more runs averaged together. It's not rocket science and is actual quite easy to shows improvements. Someone that can't get any degree of consistency should sell the car to someone with a small amount of driving talent who can.

We agree on that but many mods like a header only provide gains that are well within the driver error. What do you mean by consistency? 1\10th of a second? With that kind of consistency we are still in the error range!
Now talk about big mods and we can more or less agree more, given that more power means better times and that's not arguable.

I just have to bump this thread given the last date, and how there has been very little discussed about these headers

I just installed these headers to my car for which I already have their exhaust and dual-resonated mid pipe (and no, I dont work for them haha) - I just have to say that the install was a huge pain in the ***, but they really are worth the money and added fun installed.

It's come to conclusion that admittingly, you probably should have a free flowing exhaust (ie. no cat, sports exhaust) to take full advantage of the bennefits, but the sound and power throughout the revs is fantastic and measureable. Remember, even if it's a measly 2-4 horsepower gain, the mid-range torque and power band is changed throughout.

Other notes - the nice finish the headers have will quickly degrade due to the heat generated. Install was a huge pain in the ***, especially tightening the top left nut down on the exhaust stud of the headers. You WILL have to raise the engine quite a bit to fit them in there, but once in the rest is a breeze. The sound... fantastic.

It'll be interesting to see how BHR compares, but don't be surprised for all you fan boys out there who will buy a set instantly and come on here with spoiled pants and claim what a difference headers can make on these cars...

If you retained the catalytic converter, it's possible. If you have a visual inspection law, you probably wouldn't.

why would a custom header mated to a CAT fail a visual inspection? Perhaps it's just the way I read it...

If you are in california and you have an aftermarket part that effects emission control, you need to have a CARB sticker. Its an automatic failure, regardless if you pass the dyno test. I have the RB header and it will pass the dyno with the cat, but if the inspector can see an aftermarket part and can't find the CARB number, it will fail. Lucky, with the 8, its really hard to see the headers even with the engine cover off. Just have the engine cover on when you do the inspection (technically, inspectors can not lift, remove, or fix anything) and most people don't even know what a rotary engine is, so most likely they aren't going to question anything unless it very shiny and doesn't look factory.

I still fail to see how a header would affect emissions... Assuming they leave the silly inlet for the air pump intact.

I know other countries have strict laws about it.

I know California is close but cmon...

I was just wondering since on the item page it says that it isn't emissions legal, or something like that. And I'm getting the RP supercat, so hopefully when i get this, i can stil pass emissions, and that isn't a bifg problem in vegas.

I'd be FAR more worried about the RP cat than the Racing Beat header.
