Quick Midpipe Question..

Ive tried searching and I found alot of stuff, but nothing that really answered my concerns. I know Ill proably get flamed for asking this but.. I want to know how loud the RB catless midpipe will be paired with the RB Exhaust. I have the Rev 8 on my car now and was wanting more sound and power. While searching I found a lot of threads of people complaining of it being too loud, without a cat or resonator. So will the quietness of the RB exhaust tune this down and what kind of power can you see from a catless midpipe?

Racing Beat says you get about 8 hp with a midpipe. I don't have one but I would expect a significant increase in the sound level, even with your relativity quiet Rev8. The resonator will cut the noise down without much loss of power. You may end up with a CEL afterwards. A hiflow cat may be a better solution.

I emailed Jim Langer at RB and he said from his midpipe you could expect to gain 4-6 hp from it. I asked him because it was not listed on his site. I'm going with RP supercat, no CEL either.

So the RP high flow cat is the better solution? I was just looking at the $$ difference.

really? i think i have read some posts about people getting the CEL from the high flow cat. i have the b&b test pipe and yea its a somewhat loud. but i like it. the bad thing about the high flow cats is that after u run them for so many miles, they quit on u. hahah not a midpipe

if you have the EMU with the RX8 chip, will that also prevent CELs from a midpipe ?

i have done over 30000km without a cat with no CEL . Not everyone gets a cel - think its to do with where you put the 02 sensor back in the pipe .

Why do you say that?

So you can put your 02 sensor in a certain place in the midpipe, and the CEL wont come on? How? Has anyone else got a RB midpipe, can they tell me if it made their CEL come on.

You still still get the "cat malfunction" CEL once in a while. I used to get it immediately (within 15 miles) before I had the turbo. Once I had the turbo installed, the CEL rarely comes on (maybe once or twice a month). I bought a scangauge2 for my car - that way I can immediately read and reset the CELs. I don't like wondering if it's a cat CEL or something important.

Also you might randomly get a P0172 CEL (system too rich) because the car isn't expecting to see as much fuel as you're feeding it with the turbo.

I just put the RX8Store Hi-Flo cat with my Rev8 last week and it sounds perfecto! No CEL at this juncture and the initial smell is finally wearing off. However, get the hanger installed which ever direction you go. Mine is chattering once it gets hot with the cross brace. Good Luck!

Same here. Running it for 10k miles. I put 4 washers behind the plate, to give the pipe more room. It helps. Need longer threads. You can smell it every once in a while. My CAT failed, so I had to do something. Now I have to put it back on and take it back for recall.

I'm trying to make the decision about cat or no cat also...I'd really like to go catless if I can find a good way to prevent CELs.

I'm just about ready to go catless...I just have one more question. When it's time for emissions, I feel fine about swapping out the midpipe for the stock cat. However, I'm betting I'll get a CEL from this baby.

Will putting on the stock pipe and resetting the ecu turn off the CEL light for the emissions test? How about in the future when I have a supercharger? If I have a piggyback unit like Int-X or Motec and I reset the ECU, will I lose my maps? Thanks guys.

The Check Engine Lamp illuminates when the ECU 'sees' a problem. When the problem is fixed, the CEL goes away - but is likely stored. Reset your ECU prior to any 'hook-up-to-the-diag-port' testing.

I have the RB mid pipe and my CEL is on but it doesnt really bother me I plan on posting some HQ audio clips of my exhaust. Its not really too loud I love the sound and i dont think ill ever get pulled over for it unless a cop sees the flames shooting out!
